這是一個(gè)我給高中學(xué)生做的兩個(gè)小時(shí)的演講，現(xiàn)在縮到了三分鐘。
And it all started one day on a plane, on my way to TED seven years ago.
所有的一切都是從7年前的一天開始，我坐在飛往TED公開課的飛機(jī)上。
And in the seat next to me was a high school student, a teenager,...
在我鄰座坐的是一個(gè)高中生，一個(gè)十幾歲的年輕人...
...and she came from a really poor family.
...她生于一個(gè)貧窮的家庭。
And she wanted to make something of her life, and she asked me a simple little question.
而且她的愿望是成就一番事業(yè)，所以她問了我一個(gè)簡單的小問題。
She said, "What leads to success?"
她說：“怎樣做才能成功呢?”
And I felt really badly, because I couldn't give her a good answer.
我當(dāng)時(shí)感覺很糟糕，因?yàn)椴荒芙o她一個(gè)滿意的答案。
So I get off the plane, and I come to TED.
所以我下了飛機(jī)，來到TED。
And I think, "Jeez, I'm in the middle of a room with successful people!"
我想;“天哪，我置身于一屋子成功人士之中!”
"So, why don't I ask them what helped them succeed and pass it on to kids?"
“那么，為什么我不問問他們是怎樣走向成功的呢，這樣我就可以把答案告訴孩子們了”
So here we are, seven years, 500 interviews later,...
所以就這樣，7年中我做了500次采訪...
...and I'm gonna tell you what really leads to success and makes TEDsters tick.
...現(xiàn)在我就要告訴你們是什么帶來了成功，是什么啟發(fā)了TED講演者們。
And the first thing is passion.
第一點(diǎn)是激情。
Freeman Thomas says, "I'm driven by my passion."
費(fèi)爾曼.托馬斯說: “我總是被我的熱情所牽引著。”
TEDsters do it for love, they don't do it for money.
TED的演講者都是做自己愛好的事，不是為了錢。
Carol Coletta says, "I would pay someone to do what I do."
卡羅爾.科蕾塔說： “我會(huì)付給別人錢去做我的工作。”
And the interesting thing is, if you do it for love, the money comes anyway.
有趣的是，如果你是為了愛而做的，錢自然而然就來了。
Work!
工作!
Rupert Murdoch said to me, "It's all hard work."
魯勃.莫多茨對我說：“這是刻苦努力的工作。”
"Nothing comes easily."
“天下沒有白吃的午餐。”
"But I have a lot of fun."
“但是我得到了很多樂趣。”
Did he say fun? Rupert?
他提到了樂趣?魯勃?
Yes!
是的!
TEDsters do have fun working.
TED講演者都有一份充滿樂趣的工作。
And they work hard.
而且他們都很刻苦。
I figured, they're not workaholics,...
我覺得，他們都不是工作狂...
...they're workafrolics.
...他們是享受工作狂。
Good!
精通!
Alex Garden says, "To be successful, put your nose down in something and get damn good at it."
亞歷克斯.嘉頓說：“要想成功，就要真的深入其中，然后做到精通。”
There's no magic; it's practice, practice, practice.
要想做到精通沒有秘訣;就是練習(xí)，練習(xí)，再練習(xí)。
And it's focus.
還有就是專注。
Norman Jewison said to me, "I think it all has to do with focusing yourself on one thing."
諾爾曼.杰爾森告訴過我：“想要成功就要使自己專注于一件事情。”
And push!
強(qiáng)迫!
David Gallo says, "Push yourself.
大衛(wèi).加洛說：“強(qiáng)迫你自己。
Physically, mentally, you've got to push, push, push."
身體上，精神上，你一定要強(qiáng)迫，強(qiáng)迫，強(qiáng)迫。”
You gotta push through shyness and self-doubt.
你要強(qiáng)迫自己去戰(zhàn)勝羞澀和自我懷疑。
Goldie Hawn says, "I always had self-doubts."
戈迪.霍恩說：“我總是懷疑自己。”
"I wasn't good enough, I wasn't smart enough."
“懷疑自己不夠優(yōu)秀，不夠聰明。”
"I didn't think I'd make it."
“我從不相信我會(huì)成功。”
Now, it's not always easy to push yourself, and that's why they invented mothers.
想要成功地強(qiáng)迫自己并不容易，這就是為什么要發(fā)明媽媽。
Frank Gehry said to me, "My mother pushed me."
法蘭克.格里對我說：“我媽媽過去總是督促我。”
Serve!
服務(wù)!
Sherwin Nuland says, "It was a privilege to serve as a doctor."
雪文.諾蘭說：“能夠作為一名醫(yī)生為他人服務(wù)是一種榮幸。”
Now, a lot of kids tell me they want to be millionaires.
現(xiàn)在很多孩子告訴我他們想成為百萬富翁。
And the first thing I say to them is, "Okay well, you can't serve yourself,..."
但我對他們說的第一件事就是：“好的，但是你不能為你自己服務(wù)...”
"...you gotta serve others something of value,..."
“...你需要為他人提供有利于他人的服務(wù)。”
"...because that's the way people really get rich."
“...因?yàn)檫@就是人們致富的方式。”
Ideas. TEDster Bill Gates says, "I had an idea,..."
點(diǎn)子。TED演講者比爾.蓋茨說：“我曾經(jīng)有過一個(gè)點(diǎn)子...”
"...founding the first microcomputer software company."
“...成立第一個(gè)微機(jī)軟件公司。”
I'd say it was a pretty good idea.
我必須承認(rèn)這真的是一個(gè)很好的點(diǎn)子。
And there's no magic to creativity in coming up with ideas; it's just doing some very simple things.
對于能想出點(diǎn)子的創(chuàng)造力來講沒有什么魔力可言;都是些簡單平常的事情。
And I give lots of evidence.
而且我可以舉出很多證據(jù)。
Persist.
堅(jiān)持。
Joe Kraus says, "Persistence is the number one reason for our success."
喬.克魯斯說：“恒心是我們成功地第一條原因。”
You gotta persist through failure.
你必須堅(jiān)持度過失敗。
You've got to persist through CRAP...
你必須堅(jiān)持度過CPAR...
...which of course means "Criticism, Rejection, Assholes and Pressure."
...這里的crap是指“批評，拒絕，卑鄙小人和壓力。”
So, the big ant, the answer to this question is simple:...
所以，這個(gè)問題的答案很簡單：...
...pay 4,000 bucks and come to TED.
...付4000塊來TED會(huì)場。
Or failing that, do the eight things and trust me,...
如果不能來，就做到以上八點(diǎn)，相信我...
...these are the big eight things that lead to success.
...這重要的八點(diǎn)就是通向成功的秘訣。
