There was a scientist, an inventor of plastics, who received permission from the personnel department of his laboratory to invent a permeable plastic.

有一個專搞塑料發(fā)明的科學家得到其實驗室的人事部門的許可，力圖發(fā)明一種有滲透性的塑料。

He persevered in his efforts day after day. It was his personality to persist, you see.

他日復一日不屈不撓地做這項工作。從這一點可以看出，他性格中最大的特點就是堅持不懈。

Careful to avoid pernicious odors, he examined the perplexing problem of the perpendicular molecular crystal structures, and after much perseverance, persistence, and perspiration, finally produced a plastic that he called the Perpetual Plastic.

研究過程中，他必須小心翼翼地避免有害氣體，還要仔細觀察一個令人困惑的問題——垂直分子晶體的構(gòu)成。經(jīng)過一段時間堅定不移的持續(xù)努力，付出了無數(shù)汗水之后，他最終生產(chǎn)出一種他稱之為永久塑料的東西。

He named it this because of its permanent qualities.

他把這種塑料命名為永久塑料是因為其優(yōu)良品質(zhì)能長久保存。

One day, the scientist was called to a court of law to face charges of patent violation.

一天，這位科學家被傳出席法庭，因為有人控告他違反了專利法。

In the court room, the judge questioned the scientist saying,

法庭里，法官詢問這位科學家：

Under the threat of perjury, I ask you whether you have perpetrated the crime of fraud.

我問你的話你必須如實回答，不能發(fā)假誓。我問你是否犯了欺詐罪？

The scientist perspired under pressure and gave a persuasive argument saying,

由于壓力很大，科學家渾身都出汗了，但他仍頗具說服力地說道：

If it is permissible by the court, I would like to explain my perspective on this matter.
