年度最美英音來啦！英國女王2018圣誕致辭

英國定于2019年3月29日正式脫離歐盟，但英國議會(huì)現(xiàn)在仍未能就“脫歐”協(xié)議達(dá)成共識(shí)。在社會(huì)陷入嚴(yán)重分歧之際，英女王伊麗莎白二世將發(fā)表“脫歐”前最后一份圣誕致辭，強(qiáng)調(diào)社會(huì)和諧以及尊重他人的重要性，寄語民眾團(tuán)結(jié)一致。她還稱，較以往任何時(shí)刻，世界此時(shí)更需要和平和善意。

今年致辭的主題是尊重，英國女王呼吁人們對(duì)持相反觀點(diǎn)的人表現(xiàn)出更多的尊重。她說：“即使存在著最深刻的分歧，以尊重他人和作為人類同胞對(duì)待他人，也是增進(jìn)理解的第一步。”英國女王的圣誕演講充滿了儀式感，是英國人民在圣誕節(jié)始終保留的一個(gè)節(jié)目。

For many, the service of Nine Lessons and Carols from King’s College Cambridge is when Christmas begins. Listened to by millions of people around the world, it starts with a chorister singing the first verse of Once in Royal David City.

對(duì)于許多人而言，圣誕節(jié)的慶祝始于劍橋大學(xué)國王學(xué)院的《Nine Lessons and Carols》圣詩禮拜。禮拜的一開始唱詩班吟唱《Once in Royal David City》的第一小節(jié)，整個(gè)禮拜被全世界數(shù)百萬的人收聽。

The priest who introduced this service to King’s College Chapel exactly 100 years ago was Eric Milner-White. He has served as a military chaplain in the First World War.

整整一百年前，牧師Eric Milner-White將這個(gè)禮拜引入了國王學(xué)院教堂。他曾經(jīng)以軍中教士的身份參與了第一次世界大戰(zhàn)。

Just six weeks after the Armistice, he wanted a new kind of service which with its message of peace and goodwill spoke to the needs of the time.

The Royal Air Force celebrated its 100th anniversary with a memorable fly past, demonstrating a thrilling unity of purpose and execution. We owe them and our armed services our deepest gratitude.

My father served in the Royal Navy during the First World War, he was a midshipman in HMS Collingwood at the Battle of Jutland in 1916.

The British fleet lost 14 ships and 6,000 men in that engagement, my father wrote in a letter “how and why we were not hit beats me”.

Like others, he lost friends in the war, but Christmas we become keenly aware of loved ones who have died, whatever the circumstances, but of course we would not grieve if we did not love.

Closer to home, it has been a busy year for my family.

With two weddings and two babies and another child expected soon. It helps to keep the grandmother well occupied.

We have had other celebrations too including the 70th birthday of the Prince of Wales. Some cultures believe a long life brings wisdom. I’d like to think so.

家里面也有其他的慶?；顒?dòng)，包括威爾士親王70歲的生日。有些文明習(xí)俗認(rèn)為長壽通常會(huì)帶來智慧。我也愿意這么認(rèn)為。

Perhaps part of that wisdom is to recognise some of life’s baffling paradoxes such as the way human beings have a huge propensity for good and yet a capacity for evil.

也許那些智慧的一部分是意識(shí)到生命里不可名狀的矛盾，例如人類有強(qiáng)烈的對(duì)于善和美的傾向，同時(shí)又有惡的一面。

Even the power of faith which frequently inspires great generosity and self-sacrifice can fall victim to tribalism but through the many changes I have seen over the years, faith, family and friendship have been not only a constant for me but a source of personal comfort and reassurance.

In April the Commonwealth heads of government met in London. My father welcomed just eight countries to the first such meetings in 1948. Now the Commonwealth includes 53 countries with 2.4 billion people, a third of the world’s population.

Its strength lies in the bonds of affection it promotes and a common desire to live in a better more peaceful world.

Even with the most deeply held differences treating the other person with respect and as a fellow human being is always a good first step towards greater understanding.

Indeed the Commonwealth Games held this year on Australia’s Gold Coast are known universally as the friendly games because of their emphasis on goodwill and mutual respect.

英聯(lián)邦國家運(yùn)動(dòng)會(huì)也于今年在澳大利亞的黃金海岸舉行。本次運(yùn)動(dòng)會(huì)是眾所周知的友誼賽，正因?yàn)槲覀儗?duì)善意和相互尊重的不斷強(qiáng)調(diào)。

The Christmas story retains its appeal since it doesn’t provide theoretical explanations for the puzzles of life. Instead, it’s about the birth of a child and the hope that birth 2,000 years ago brought to the world.

耶穌誕生的故事一直保持著它的魅力并不是因?yàn)樗鼮樯钌系闹i題提供了理論上的解釋。換言之，圣誕故事是關(guān)于一個(gè)孩童的出生，以及這個(gè)2000年前的誕生為世界帶來的希望。

Only a few people acknowledged Jesus when he was born. Now billions follow him. I believe his message of peace on earth and goodwill to all is never out of date. It can be heeded by everyone. It’s needed as much as ever.
