10) When the weather is hot, we turn on the air conditioner.
    天熱的時候就開空調(diào)。
    * air conditioner 的作用不但在調(diào)節(jié)溫度，也能調(diào)節(jié)濕度。

11) Please don't let the dog come in the house.
    請別讓狗進到屋子里。
    * 有沒有 come，意思都不會有改變，美國有 let in 的慣用語。

12) Why did you come home so late last night?
    昨晚你為什么那么晚才回家？
    * “come home”，“come back”，“return”的意義都相似。

13) Dad is building another room onto the back the house.
    爸爸另外在屋子的后面蓋一個房間。
    * 歐美的 weekend carpenter 也兼表“增建房屋”的意思。
      由于含有 attached to 的意義，所以才使用 onto。

14) In the fall, the boys prune the trees.
    在秋天，男孩們便修剪那些樹木。
    * prune 是指把樹上無用的樹枝剪掉。

15) After the flood, the carpets were wet for a month.
    洪水過后一個月，毛氈還是濕的。

16) I hate to dust the furniture and bookcases.
    我非常討厭擦拭家具和書架上的塵埃。
    * dust 是塵埃，但作動詞時便變成拂拭塵埃。
      dust 和 dirt 有不同的意義在。
      沖著玩泥巴的孩子說“Don't get dirty.”，但并不說“Don't get dusty.”。

17) My grandparents live in the house next door.
    我的祖父母住在隔壁的房子里。
    * 就是說，他們變成 next door neighbors。

18) All the neighbors helped us move in.
    鄰居們都幫忙為我們搬家。
    * move 還有移動的意思，因而產(chǎn)生搬家的釋義。
      又因為附有 in，所以作“搬來”解。
