1) Why did the company demand his resignation?
   為什么公司命令他辭職呢？
   * demand 是理所當(dāng)然的要求，意義強(qiáng)烈，因而使用在日常生活中須加以注意。

2) He would direct the workman to use his plans.
   他為了執(zhí)行自己的計(jì)劃，給員工下了指示。
   * direct 是給予指示、下達(dá)訓(xùn)示的意思。

3) I must insist you finish what you have started!
   我是說一旦開始的事就必須堅(jiān)持到底！

4) He commanded the soldiers to fire.
   他命令士兵開火。
   * command 是指非常嚴(yán)格的命令，意味著絕對(duì)服從。

5) They enjoin us to follow their example.
   他們強(qiáng)要我們以他們?yōu)榘駱?。（有些象繞口令。）
   * enjoin 有給予強(qiáng)有力的訓(xùn)示的感覺。意味著學(xué)校的老師以至法律上的命令。

6) Why am I always expected to pay the bills?
   為什么老是由我來付賬呢？

7) Be careful whom you appoint to the position of manager.
   你該當(dāng)心你所任命的那個(gè)經(jīng)理。
