We are starting with a confirmation hearing. This is Ashton Carter. He is the former U.S. deputy secretary of defense, he`s President Obama`s choice to be the next secretary of defense. Part of the Senate`s job is to give the president advice and consent about his cabinet nominees. So, a Senate committee opened a hearing yesterday. A kind of job interview for Ashton Carter. One subject he was asked about, ISIS, the terrorist group in Iraq and Syria, recently murdered a captured fighter pilot from Jordan. The brutality, with which ISIS killed him and two Japanese hostages has stirred up rage around the world.

今天的新聞我們從一個(gè)聽(tīng)證會(huì)開(kāi)始。這是阿什頓卡特，美國(guó)前國(guó)防副部長(zhǎng)，美國(guó)總統(tǒng)奧巴馬提名其為美國(guó)國(guó)防部長(zhǎng)。參議院的部分工作是給總統(tǒng)提建議并通過(guò)內(nèi)閣成員提名。所以坐臺(tái)女參議院召開(kāi)了一次委員會(huì)聽(tīng)證會(huì)。也是對(duì)阿什頓卡特的一次面試。其中設(shè)計(jì)到的一個(gè)問(wèn)題就是在伊拉克和敘利亞的IS恐怖組織最近殺害約旦飛行員事件。IS恐怖組織殘忍殺害了該飛行員，還有兩名日本人質(zhì)，該事件引起了世界范圍的憤怒。

The Obama administration says it`s made progress in leading the fight against ISIS, but it`s been criticized for not having a clear strategy on how to defeat the terrorists. If Ashton Carter is confirmed as Defense Secretary, he`ll likely have some options in fighting ISIS.

奧巴馬政府表示其正領(lǐng)導(dǎo)著對(duì)抗IS打擊戰(zhàn)取得進(jìn)展，但是其因?yàn)闆](méi)有明確的作戰(zhàn)策略備受批評(píng)。如果阿什頓卡特被提名為國(guó)防部長(zhǎng)，他很大程度上將就打擊IS恐怖組織行動(dòng)采取措施。
