第二章名詞與冠詞 冠詞的基本用法

　　1.不定冠詞的基本意思是“一個”：

　　Rome was not built in a day.

　　羅馬不是一天建成的。(諺)

　　She'll be back in a day or two.

　　她一兩天內(nèi)就回來。

　　也可表示“某一個”：

　　A gentleman wants to see you.

　　有一位先牛想見你。

　　還可表示一類人或東西(這時不一定譯為“一”字)：

　　He is an architect.

　　他是建筑師。

　　A tiger is a ferocious animal.

　　老虎是猛獸。

　　2.the和this, that同源，也表示“這個”，“那個”，但意思較弱，常不譯成“這”，“那”，多表示一個(些)特定的人或東西：

　　Can I speak to the manager?

　　我能和經(jīng)理談談嗎?

　　Where are the girls?

　　姑娘們在哪里?

　　Put it on the desk.

　　把它放在寫字臺上。

　　How do you like the film?

　　這部電影你覺得怎樣?

　　還可表示一類人或東西：

　　The peasants did a lot for the war.

　　農(nóng)民為這次戰(zhàn)爭做出了很大貢獻。

　　The compass was invented in China.

　　指南針是中國發(fā)明的。

　　The lion is found in Africa.

　　獅子出在非洲。

　　有些表示獨一無二東西的名詞，前面常常加the：

　　The sun is down.

　　太陽已經(jīng)落山。

　　The moon moves round the earth.

　　月亮圍著地球轉(zhuǎn)。

　　The sky is clear and cloudless.

　　天空明凈無云。

　　定冠詞還可和少數(shù)形容詞連用，表示一類人或東西：

　　Soon she would be among the unemployed.

　　不久她將加入失業(yè)大軍。

　　She has sympathy for the poor.

　　她同情窮人。

　　We mustn't attempt the impossible.

　　我們不能企圖做不可能的事。
