Hi! Welcome to Xiaoming Yingyu. Let’s start with ourslang for today.
歡迎來到小明英語,讓我們開始今天的俚語吧
Ok. So we have three for you today, they are veryclosely related.
我們今天有三個俚語,它們關(guān)聯(lián)很緊密
Do you know what hit means? Well, it has anothermeaning as well. When you hit a place, then you arearriving.
你知道hit是什么意思嗎?它還有另外一個意思。如果你hit a place,意思就是你在到達一個地方
You can kind of think of it as your feet hitting the ground in a certain place.
你可以想作是你的腳拍打地面
The most common expression that uses “hit” this way is “hit the road”.
最常用的是hit the road
When you say “hit the road”, it means your feet are hitting the road and you are goingsomewhere.
當你說hit the road的時候,意思是你的腳在拍打路面,你在去一個地方
So if you are trying to leave for school, and maybe your little brother or sister is being slow, you can say,
如果你在準備去學(xué)校,你的弟弟或者妹妹很磨蹭,你可以說
“Come on, let’s hit the road, we should start going now.”
讓我們hit the road吧,我們應(yīng)該出發(fā)了
Another way to use “hit” is for special places that you are going to. Two of the most commonones are to “hit the slopes”, or “hit the beach”.
Hit也可以用在所去的特殊地點。兩個最常用的是hit the slopes和hit the beach
If you are hitting the slopes, you are going to the mountains for skiing or snowboarding.
如果你hit the slopes,意思就是你去山里滑雪或者滑板
If you say “hit the beach”, you are just going to the beach to surf, or just to enjoy theatmosphere.
如果你說hit the beach,意思就是你去海邊沖浪,或者享受海邊的風光
That’s our slang for today. See? Three different ones, all very closely related.
這就是我們今天的俚語??吹搅税?三個不同的,但是很有關(guān)聯(lián)
Just remember, if you hear “hit”, it means you are going to a certain place, your feet are hittingthe ground there.
記住,如果你聽到了hit,意思是去一個地方,你的腳在拍打地面
Moving on to sentence structure. Here’s our first example.
現(xiàn)在來講句型,這是我們第一個例句
“Between Fred and George, George is the better choice for the job.”
在弗萊德和喬治之間,喬治是這個工作更好的人選
So the structure is “Between A and B, A is the better choice for C.”
句型是 在A與B之間,A是針對C更好的選擇
Another example is “Between red and blue, blue is the better choice for the color of a car.”
另外一個例子是 在紅色和藍色之間,藍色是一輛車更好的選擇
“Between beef and lamb, beef is the better choice for a roast.” That is another example.
在牛肉和羊肉之間,牛肉是烤肉的更好選擇。這是另外一個例子
You are choosing between two things and you are deciding which one is better suited for theposition
that is open.
你在兩個事物中選擇并決定哪個是更好的
It can be a job, it can be a dish, it can be a room in a house, or a class, anything you like.
可以是一個工作,一道菜,一個房間,一門課,或者是任何事物
So it’s a useful sentence structure I think. Alright, moving on, here is our etymology section.
我覺得這是一個很有用的句型。好了,現(xiàn)在我們來講詞源吧
Our root is “mani”. Have you heard of it before? I’m looking at you girls, have you ever gotten amanicure?
我們的詞根是mani。你聽過嗎?女生們,你們做過美甲嗎?
A manicure is when someone does your nails for you, and makes sure your hands are really softafterwards.
美甲就是一個人給你做指甲,在做完之后你的手也非常的柔軟
So a manicure is a treatment for your hands. So yup, “mani” means hands. And it actuallyshows up in a lot of different words.
美甲是一個對你的手的料理。Mani就是手的意思。它出現(xiàn)在很多不同的單詞中
“Command” or “commander”, those are words meaning someone who’s in charge or being incharge of somebody.
Command或者commander,這兩個詞的意思是一個管制別人的人
A commander is a leader, someone who has an official position of direction others.
一個指揮官是一個領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者,有一個統(tǒng)治別人的地位
A long time ago, that meant mostly pointing at things, like during war, a commander wouldsay, go there, go there, do this, all using their hands.
很久以前,很多時候是和用手去指物體相關(guān)的。比如打仗的時候,一個指揮官會用手去統(tǒng)治部隊的方向
And then being a commander, you command. That is the verb form. You can also makesomething mandatory.
一個統(tǒng)治者會統(tǒng)治,這是動詞。你也可以通過統(tǒng)治把一件事變成法定的。
You have no choice, because you have been commanded to do it. And there is another wordthat uses the root “mani”, manipulate.
你沒有選擇,因為你被命令了去做這件事。另外一個用mani這個詞根的是manipulate(操縱)
It is when someone skillfully influences or manages a person or a situation.
意思是當某人影響或者管理一個人或者一個狀況
They don't always use their hands, but it’s sort of the same effect as molding clay, you arechanging something to be what you want it to be. Manipulate.
他們不是總用手,但是效果和塑造泥土差不多,你在把某物按照自己的意愿來改變。
And, one that you’ve probably heard is “demand”. When you demand something, you areasking for it.
你可能聽到過demand。當你demand某物的時候,你在要求。
You can say “Hey, can you give me that please?” Oh look, I’m using my hands again.
你可以說,“你好,可以給我那個東西嗎?” 看,我又在用我的手了
I guess it’s not a huge surprise that so many words have the root “hand” in them. So that isour root for today.
我覺得很多單詞里都有這個詞根不是一件讓人驚訝的事吧。這就是我們今天的詞根
“mani”, meaning hands. Why don’t you try listening for this root in your daily life? You might besurprised how often it comes up.
Mani就是手的意思。你也試著在每天的生活里聽聽有沒有這個詞根的詞吧。它出現(xiàn)的頻率可能會讓你驚訝
I hope you learned something today, and that you enjoyed the class.
我希望你今天學(xué)到了一些知識,并且喜歡這節(jié)課
