看到see the elephant，你會(huì)怎么理解？
按字面意思來(lái)當(dāng)然是“看見(jiàn)大象”。但它的實(shí)際含義遠(yuǎn)不止這么簡(jiǎn)單。一起來(lái)看看吧↓

see the elephant也可說(shuō)成get a look/ sight at the elephant，意思是“開(kāi)眼界”、“長(zhǎng)見(jiàn)識(shí)”。
為什么看到了大象就等于“看到了世界”，就是“見(jiàn)過(guò)世面了”？因?yàn)樵趕ee the elephant這句俚語(yǔ)誕生的年代，只有在非洲和亞洲才能看到大象。對(duì)當(dāng)時(shí)的人來(lái)說(shuō)，能看見(jiàn)大象就相當(dāng)于是見(jiàn)過(guò)世面、開(kāi)了眼界了。就這樣，see the elephant就成了“見(jiàn)見(jiàn)世面”的意思了。
