看到see the elephant，你會怎么理解？
按字面意思來當(dāng)然是“看見大象”。但它的實際含義遠(yuǎn)不止這么簡單。一起來看看吧↓
 
see the elephant
see the elephant也可說成get a look/ sight at the elephant，意思是“開眼界”、“長見識”。
為什么看到了大象就等于“看到了世界”，就是“見過世面了”？因為在see the elephant這句俚語誕生的年代，只有在非洲和亞洲才能看到大象。對當(dāng)時的人來說，能看見大象就相當(dāng)于是見過世面、開了眼界了。就這樣，see the elephant就成了“見見世面”的意思了。
例句：
The boy came and saw the elephant in the city.
男孩到城里來大開了眼界。
 
see red
to become very angry
非常生氣；暴怒
see red源于斗牛，公?？吹郊t色就會發(fā)怒。因此，see red意思是“怒不可遏、火冒三丈”。
例句：

see stars
想一想，除了抬頭望天之外，你還能在什么時候看到星星？
——被撞倒或是被打到眼冒金星的時候。
所以see stars又有“眼冒金星”的意思。
