突破英語口語練習：over the moon可不是“月亮之上”，賞月時別說錯～

雖說十五的月亮十六圓，但今年的中秋卻是“十五的月亮十五圓”。你和家人朋友一起賞月了嗎？
賞月是東方文化里特有的習俗，因為月亮代表永恒。但在西方文化中，月亮卻是多變的。英語中有個短語as changeable as the moon，形容像月亮一樣多變。

在《羅密歐與朱麗葉》中，莎士比亞就這樣寫月亮的多變：
Romeo: Lady, I swear by the blessed moon, that tips all theses fruit-tree tops with silver-
羅密歐：姑娘，憑著這一輪皎潔的月亮，它的銀光涂染著這些果樹的梢端，我發(fā)誓——
Juliet: Oh, don't swear by the moon, that inconstant moon, that changes every month in her orbit, in case you love should prove equally unreliable.
朱麗葉：?。〔灰钢铝疗鹗?，它是變化無常的，每個月都有盈虧圓缺；你要是指著它起誓，也許你的愛情也會像它一樣無常。
可見，東西方對于月亮的理解和賦予其的含義是十分不同的。
 
而英語中，和moon有關的短語也有著不同的含義，而且常常帶有消極的一面。
ask/ cry for the moon
幻想得到無法得到的東西；想做做不到的事。
to ask for something that is difficult or impossible to get or achieve
例句：
Wanting a decent job and a home is hardly asking for the moon.
想要一份體面的工作和一個家并不是什么奢望。
 
bark at the moon
“向著月亮嚎叫”，引申為“空喊；徒勞地吵鬧”。類似的表達還有bay at the moon，意為“費力做沒有價值的事，徒勞”。
而月亮對此也有回應：
The moon does not heed the barking of dogs. (=Does the moon care for the barking of a dog?）
即“月亮不理狗的狂吠”，引申為“對無稽責難置之不理”。
例句：
Those who protested against the president’s decision were actually barking at the moon, since they were in a powerless minority.
由于他們屬于軟弱無力的少數(shù)，他們反對總統(tǒng)的決定實際上是枉費唇舌。

做無法兌現(xiàn)的許諾（moon也可以換成earth）。

over the moon
可能你看到這個短語，腦海中就會浮現(xiàn)出這樣的旋律：我在仰望，月亮之上，有多少夢想在自由地飛翔……over the moon要表達的情感或許差不多：
（對某事）非常高興，狂喜。
to be very happy about something
例句：
Keith was over the moon about becoming a father.
基思因為當上父親而感到非常高興。
 
once in a blue moon
blue moon并不是藍色的月亮，而是一種天文現(xiàn)象——當一個月出現(xiàn)兩次月圓之夜時，第二個滿月就稱為“藍月亮”。這種現(xiàn)象相對罕見（約每兩年半會出現(xiàn)一次）。
因此在日常生活中，人們用blue moon來形容“罕見、不常發(fā)生的事情”。once in a blue moon可譯為“千載難逢”。
used for emphasizing that something does not happen very often
例句：
We only go out once in a blue moon.
我們難得出去一次。
 
many moons ago
這是“很久以前”的一個非常文學化的表達。
