[00:05.46]Listening and speaking
[00:07.25]4 You are going to listen to a radio interview
[00:11.08]with Dr. Chen Lisha, an expert
[00:13.77]on communication skills.
[00:16.30]Rosemary, what are the most common situations
[00:18.75]where people have problems in communicating?
[00:21.23]Well, probably one of the main situations
[00:23.22]where people have problems communicating is
[00:25.15]where they're unsure of who they're talking to.
[00:28.20]So for instance going to a party
[00:30.01]and it's a room full of strangers,
[00:31.36]people you've never ever met before,
[00:33.11]that generally for most people will prove
[00:34.95]to be a little bit of a difficult situation.
[00:36.86]Erm I suppose the second area is where people
[00:38.24]are unsure of what they're talking about,
[00:40.51]so the content worries them for whatever reason
[00:42.37]And the third area is
[00:44.12]where we're in a situation
[00:46.52]of speaking to an audience
[00:48.26]who we perceive are very different to us,
[00:50.59]so they are different in terms of their age,
[00:53.10]their experience or their status.
