a ballpark figure 的意思是：“粗略估計(jì)，大概的數(shù)字”，ballpark 指的是專供球類比賽的公園，特指大型的棒球場(chǎng)。在棒球比賽時(shí)都會(huì)報(bào)當(dāng)天的觀眾人數(shù)，例如49132人，這個(gè)數(shù)49132就是ballpark figure，但這只是一個(gè)大約數(shù)字而已。因此，當(dāng)美國(guó)人說"Can you give us a ballpark figure?"時(shí)，他/她要表達(dá)的意思就是:"Can you give us a rough number?"、"Can you give us an approximate amount?"。
