mankind的語(yǔ)法與用法

1. 基本用法

mankind的意思是“人類”，它是一個(gè)不可數(shù)的集合名詞，不用復(fù)數(shù)形式，也不連用冠詞。如：

the worst war in the history of mankind 人類歷史上最糟糕的戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)

Language is peculiar to mankind. 語(yǔ)言是人類特有的。

Sympathy is the feeling characteristic of mankind. 同情心是人類特有的情感。

The civilization of mankind has taken thousands of years. 人類經(jīng)數(shù)千年才文明開(kāi)化。

We labour for the happiness of mankind. 我們?yōu)槿祟惖男腋６ぷ鳌?/p>

2. 使用代詞

mankind 后通常用 it, its 之類的代詞，而不用 he, his 等。如：

Mankind has its own problems. 人類有自己的問(wèn)題。

比較：若用 man 表示“人類”，則用 he, his 等代詞。如：

Man has his problems.

3. 特別提醒

前面說(shuō)過(guò)，mankind 表示“人類”是一個(gè)表集合意義的不可數(shù)名詞，因此不能有復(fù)數(shù)形式。但有趣的是，它有時(shí)可視為復(fù)數(shù)，尤其是其表語(yǔ)是復(fù)數(shù)時(shí)。如：

Mankind are intelligent animals. 人是理智的動(dòng)物。

另外，在現(xiàn)代英語(yǔ)中，有的人認(rèn)為用 mankind 來(lái)表示“人類”，是對(duì)女性的歧視，建議用humans, human beings, the human race 等代之。
