[名詞用法]含有名詞case 的幾個(gè)重要短語(yǔ)的用法

　　In any case you must arrive there on time. 無(wú)論如何你必須按時(shí)到達(dá)那里。

　　It may rain tomorrow, but we are going home in any case. 明天可能下雨, 但不管怎樣, 我們打算回家去。

　　2. 用于in case，有以下兩個(gè)用法：

　　(1) 起副詞作用，其意為“以防萬(wàn)一”。如：

　　You had better carry some money in case. 你最好帶些錢，以防萬(wàn)一。

　　It may rain; you’d better take an umbrella in case. 可能下雨——你最好帶把傘，以防萬(wàn)一。

　　(2) 起連詞作用，用于引導(dǎo)條件狀語(yǔ)從句和目的狀語(yǔ)從句。

　　① 引導(dǎo)條件狀語(yǔ)從句，意為“假使”“如果”。如：

　　In case he comes, let me know. 如果他來(lái)的話，告訴我一聲。

　　In case they’re late, we can always sit in the bar. 要是他們來(lái)晚了，我們總可以在酒吧里坐一坐。

　　這類從句的謂語(yǔ)除通常使用陳述語(yǔ)氣外，有時(shí)也可使用“(should+)動(dòng)詞原形”這樣的虛擬語(yǔ)氣。如：

　　I bought the car at once in case he changed [should change] his mind. 我馬上買下那輛汽車，以免他變卦。

　　② 引導(dǎo)目的狀語(yǔ)從句，意為“以防”“免得”。如：

　　Be quiet in case you wake the baby. 輕點(diǎn)兒，別吵醒嬰兒。

　　Write the telephone number down in case you forget. 把電話號(hào)碼寫下來(lái)以免忘了。

　　3. 用于復(fù)合介詞in case of，其意為“如果”“萬(wàn)一”“以防”。如：

　　The wall was built along the river in case of floods. 沿河筑了防護(hù)墻以防洪水。

　　In case of fire, walk quickly to the nearest door. 如果失火，就趕快朝最近的門跑。

　　In case of emergency, break the glass and press the button. 遇到緊急情況時(shí)，擊碎玻璃罩并摁下按鈕。

　　4. 用于in no case，意為“絕不”“無(wú)論如何不”。如：

　　In no case should you panic. 千萬(wàn)不要驚慌。

　　I will reveal your secret in no case. 我絕不會(huì)泄漏你的秘密。

　　由于本身含有否定意義，所以當(dāng)它置于句首時(shí)，其后要用倒裝語(yǔ)序。如：

　　In no case should you give up. 你絕不能放棄。

　　5. 用于in that (this) case，其意為“既然那樣(這樣)”“在那種(這種)情況下”“如果是那樣(這樣)的話”。如：

　　In that case you’ll have to clear yourself. 那樣，你只得自行辯白了。

　　In that case, I have no more to say. 要是那樣，我就沒(méi)什么可說(shuō)的了。

　　We cannot assume anything in this case. 在這種情形下我們無(wú)法作任何揣測(cè)。

　　注意以下這類引導(dǎo)定語(yǔ)從句的情形。如：

　　He may be busy, in which case I’ll call later. 他可能忙，如若如此，我以后再來(lái)拜訪。

　　She may be late, in which case we ought to wait for her. 她可能遲到，因此我們應(yīng)該等她。

　　I may have to work late, in which case I’ll telephone. 我可能得晚點(diǎn)下班，那樣我會(huì)打電話的。
