Fear is whispered in our ears and shouted in our faces. Faith must be fostered by the man orwoman you see every day in the mirror. The former forever snaps at our heels and oursynapses and delays our course. The latter can spur our book heels to be wandering, stimulateour creativity, and drive us forward. Fear or faith: which will be our master? Three men found that they could no longer sleep because of their deep-seeded lives fears. Thisis a story I'm telling. Their lives were in the state of stasis because of their constant worreis. So they set out on a pilgrimage to find a wise man who lived high in the mountains, so highup above the tree line, that no vegetation grew, no animals live, not even insects could befound so high up in the mountains in that thin air. When they reached his cave, the first of thethree said: 當他們走到他的洞穴,為首的朝圣者說: "Help me, wise man, for my fear has crippled me!" "What is your fear?" asked the wise man. "I fear death," said the pilgrim, "I wonder when it is going to come for me." "Ah, death..." said the wise man. "Let me take away this fear, my friend. Death will not cometo call until you are ready for its embrace. Know that and your fear will go away." 1. set out 動身;出發(fā);啟程; eg. When setting out on a long walk, always wear suitable boots. eg. We set out with enough provisions. 2. take away 拿走;帶走; eg. Nothing can take away the anguish of losing a child from his parents. eg. They're going to take my citizenship away... 3. be ready for sth. 準備好的;勝任的; eg. The goods are ready for shipment. eg. Both sides are ready for the contest.
