Dan Robinson has been worried all week. LastTuesday he received a letter from the local police. Inthe letter he was asked to call at the station. Danwondered why he was wanted by the police,but he went to the station yesterday and nowhe is not worried anymore. At the station, hewastold by a smiling policeman that his bicyclehad been found. Five days ago, the policemantold him, the bicycle was picked up in a smallvillage four hundred miles away. It is nowbeingsent to his home by train. Dan was most surprised when he heard the news. He wasamused too, because he never expected the bicycle to be found. It was stolen twenty yearsago when Dan was a boy of fifteen!
精講筆記：
4. Dan wondered why he was wanted by the police, but he went to the stationyesterday and now he is not worried any more.
丹奇怪警察為什么要找他，但是他昨天還是去了，現(xiàn)在他不再擔(dān)心了。
語言點1 sb. be wanted意為“某人被要求……”，在此處是一個雙關(guān)語：一方面丹被警察傳訊了，已經(jīng)收到了傳票;另一方面被警察傳訊大部分情況不是什么好事情，丹很奇怪警察為什么偏偏要傳訊他。
語言點2 not..any more = no more / not…any longer / no longer意為“不再……”
There is no more money.已經(jīng)沒有錢了。
5. At the station, he was told by a smiling policeman that his bicycle had been found.
在警察局里，一位面帶笑容的警察告訴他，他的自行車已經(jīng)被找到了。
語言點1 a smiling policeman 一位面帶笑容的警察
語言點2 that引導(dǎo)賓語從句。
6. Five days ago, the policeman told him, the bicycle was picked up in a small villagefourhundred miles away.
那位警察對他說，那輛自行車是5天前在400英里外的一個小村里發(fā)現(xiàn)的。
語言點1 five days ago意為“5天前”，was picked up過去時的被動語態(tài)，時間狀語與時態(tài)一致。
語言點2 in a small village four hundred miles away為地點狀語。
