There is a lion at the zoo.
動(dòng)物園里有一只獅子。
He is a big lion.
他是一只大獅子。
He is a strong lion.
一只壯獅子。
But he is not a roaring lion.
但是他卻不是一只咆哮的獅子。
He is a lonely lion.
他是一只孤獨(dú)的獅子。
The lion lives alone in a cage.
獅子孤獨(dú)地生活在籠子里。
The lion at the zoo is not like a real lion.
動(dòng)物園里的獅子不像真正的獅子。
He does not hunt for his food.
他不自己獵取食物。
Every morning, a man comes to feed the lion.
每天早晨，一個(gè)人來(lái)喂獅子。
The man feeds meat to the lion.
他喂肉給獅子。
The lion at the zoo is not like a real lion.
動(dòng)物園里的獅子不像真正的獅子。
He does not sleep in the forest.
他不在森林里睡覺(jué)。
Every night, the lion goes to sleep in his cage.
每天夜里，獅子在他的籠子里睡覺(jué)。
He dreams about running in the forest.
他夢(mèng)見(jiàn)自己在森林里奔跑。
The lion at the zoo is not like a real lion.

He does not play with his friends.

Every night the lion dreams in his cage.

He dreams about his free friends in the forest.

Every day, girls and boys come to the zoo.
每天，男孩女孩們來(lái)動(dòng)物園。
They come to look at the lion.
他們來(lái)看獅子。
They yelled, "Roar!Lion!"
他們喊道，“吼啊!獅子!”
But the lion just sits in the cage.
可獅子只是坐在籠子里。
The lion is not roaring on the outside.
外表上，獅子不吼。
The lion is crying on the inside.
內(nèi)心里，獅子在哭泣。
The girls and boys say, "Why don't you roar?"
女孩男孩們說(shuō)，“你為什么不吼呢?”
They laugh at the lion.
他們嘲笑起這獅子來(lái)。
They say, "Look at the lion,
他們說(shuō)，“瞧這獅子，
he is not big and strong, he does not roar,
他既不大又不壯，他不吼，
he is crying."
他在哭。”
One day, a monkey comes to the lion's cage.
一天，一只猴子來(lái)到獅籠這兒。
"Why are you crying?" asks the monkey.
“你為什么哭呢?”猴子問(wèn)。
"I'm crying because I'm lonely," says the lion,
“我哭泣是因?yàn)楣陋?dú)，”獅子說(shuō)，
"I want to go back to the forest.
//“我想回到森林去。
I want to run in the forest.
我想在森林里奔跑。
I want to hunt in the forest.
我想在森林里捕獵。
I want to play with my friends in the forest."
我想在森林里同我的朋友們玩耍。”
"Can I help you?" asks the monkey.
“我能幫你嗎?”猴子問(wèn)。
"How can you help me?" asks the lion.
“你怎么幫我呢?”獅子問(wèn)。
"I can open the cage," says the monkey,
“我可以打開(kāi)籠子，”猴子說(shuō)，
"If I open the cage, please don't eat me."
“如果我打開(kāi)籠子，請(qǐng)不要吃我。”
The lion jumps up,
獅子跳起來(lái)，
"Please! Please monkey!
“拜托!拜托你了猴子!
Please open the cage."
請(qǐng)打開(kāi)籠子吧。”
"I promise I won't eat you.
“我發(fā)誓不吃你。
I just want to go home to live in the forest."
我只是想回家，生活在森林里。”
So the monkey opens the cage.
于是，猴子打開(kāi)了籠子。
And the lion jumps out.
獅子跳了出來(lái)。
The monkey is afraid,
猴子有些害怕，
because he knows that in the forest lions eat monkey.
因?yàn)樗?，在森林里，獅子是吃猴子的。
The lion keeps his promise to the monkey.
獅子遵守了他對(duì)猴子的諾言。
He is too happy to eat the monkey.
他太高興了，根本沒(méi)想要吃猴子。
The lion is so happy that he jumps up and down.
獅子高興地蹦蹦跳跳，
He turns around and around.
他轉(zhuǎn)了一圈又一圈。
He does something that a lion has never done before in the forest.
他做出了以前森林里的獅子從未做過(guò)的行為。
He hugs the monkey.
他擁抱了猴子。
The lion is so happy
獅子是那么高興，
that he tells the monkey over and over again,
他一遍又一遍地反復(fù)對(duì)猴子說(shuō)，
"Thank you! Thank you, monkey.
“謝謝你!謝謝你猴子。
I am going to the forest to see my friends.
我要到森林去見(jiàn)我的朋友們了。
Now, you and the other monkeys are my friends too."
現(xiàn)在，你和其他猴子都是我的朋友了。”
Then the lion runs away.
然后，獅子就跑了。
He runs far, far away from the zoo.
他跑到離動(dòng)物園很遠(yuǎn)，很遠(yuǎn)的地方去了。
He runs back to the forest.
他跑回了森林。
Now the lion is like a real lion.
現(xiàn)在的獅子像個(gè)真正的獅子了。
He does not need a man to feed him meat,
他不再需要有人來(lái)喂他肉了，
every morning he hunts for food.
每天早上，他自己獵食吃。
He does not need a cage to sleep in,
他不必睡在籠子里，
every night, he goes to sleep in the forest.
每天夜里，他在森林里入睡。
Now the lion is like a real lion.
現(xiàn)在的獅子像個(gè)真正的獅子了。
He does not dream about running in the forest,
他不用夢(mèng)想在森林里奔跑，
he runs in the forest.
他就在森林里奔跑。
He does not dream about playing with his friends,
他不用在夢(mèng)中同朋友們玩耍，
he plays with his friends in the forest.
他就在森林里同他的朋友們玩耍。
He never dreams about going back to the cage at the zoo.
