“我想我在那輛卡車?yán)锟匆娏恕?rdquo;比利說道。“你得去把它挖出來。”
Jacob slouched back out into the rain.
雅克布無精打采地走出屋外，走回雨中。
Billy and I faced each other in silence. After a fewseconds, the quiet started to feel awkward, so I turned and headed to the kitchen. I couldhear his wet wheels squeak against the linoleum as he followed.
比利和我沉默地對(duì)峙著。幾秒鐘以后，這種靜寂開始變得尷尬起來，所以我轉(zhuǎn)過身去，徑直走向廚房。我能聽到他跟著我，濕漉漉的輪椅碾過地上鋪著的油毯發(fā)出吱吱聲。
I shoved the bag onto the crowded top shelf of the fridge, and spun around to confront him.His deeply lined face was unreadable.
我把紙包塞進(jìn)冰箱擁擠的上格，旋即轉(zhuǎn)身與他對(duì)峙著。他棱角分明的臉上有著無法讀懂的神情。
"Charlie won't be back for a long time." My voice was almost rude.
“查理得很久以后才會(huì)回來。”我的語氣幾近粗魯。
He nodded in agreement, but said nothing.
他同意地點(diǎn)了點(diǎn)頭，但什么也沒說。
"Thanks again for the fish fry," I hinted.
“再次感謝你的煎魚。”我暗示道。
He continued nodding. I sighed and folded my arms across my chest.
他繼續(xù)點(diǎn)頭，我嘆了口氣，把胳膊交疊在胸前。
He seemed to sense that I had given up on small talk. "Bella," he said, and then he hesitated.
他似乎感覺到我已經(jīng)放棄了與他閑談。“貝拉。”他說完，又躊躇了起來。
I waited.
我等待著。
"Bella," he said again, "Charlie is one of my best friends."
“貝拉，”他再次說道。“查理是我最好的朋友之一。”
"Yes."
“是的。”
He spoke each word carefully in his rumbling voice. "I noticed you've been spending time withone of the Cullens."
他用他隆隆的嗓音小心地說著每個(gè)字。“我注意到，你經(jīng)常和卡倫家的其中一個(gè)成員待在一起。”
"Yes," I repeated curtly.
“是的。”我簡短地重復(fù)著。
His eyes narrowed. "Maybe it's none of my business, but I don't think that is such a good idea."
他的眼睛瞇縫起來。“也許這與我無關(guān)，但我不認(rèn)為這是個(gè)好主意。”
"You're right," I agreed. "It is none of your business."
“你是對(duì)的，”我贊同道。“這與你無關(guān)。”
He raised his graying eyebrows at my tone. "You probably don't know this, but the Cullenfamily has an unpleasant reputation on the reservation."
聽到我這樣的語氣，他揚(yáng)起了灰白的眉毛。“你也許不知道這一點(diǎn)，但卡倫家在保留區(qū)聲名狼藉。”
