An English tourist found himself in Norway with onlyenough in his pocket to pay his passage back. As heknew that it would take him only two days to get toEngland, he decided that he could easily do withoutfood. So he went on board the steamer and boughta ticket.
一個(gè)英國(guó)旅客在挪威時(shí)發(fā)現(xiàn)自己口袋里的錢僅夠回家的路費(fèi)了。他清楚到英國(guó)只需兩天就夠了，于是就決定不吃飯，熬熬就過(guò)去了。隨后，他就上了輪船，買了一張票。
He closed his ears to the sound of the lunch bell. When dinner time came he refused theinvitation to accompany a fellow traveller to the saloon, saying that he didn't feel well.
吃午飯的鈴聲響了，他堵住耳朵不聽。到晚飯時(shí)間，一個(gè)同船旅客請(qǐng)他一塊去餐廳，他又拒絕了，說(shuō)是不舒服。
The next morning he didn't go to breakfast and at lunch time he again stayed in his cabin. Atdinner time he was so hungry that he could not stand it any longer.
第二天早上，他也沒有去吃早飯，午飯時(shí)仍然呆在船艙內(nèi)。到了開晚飯的時(shí)候，他餓極了，再也無(wú)法忍受了。
"I'm going to eat," he said, "even if they throw me overboard afterwards."
“我要去吃飯，”他說(shuō)，“哪怕吃完后他們把我扔下船。”
At dinner he ate everything the steward put in front of him and felt ready for the coming row.
晚飯時(shí)，他把侍者端來(lái)的飯吃了個(gè)精光，并準(zhǔn)備迎接即將到來(lái)的爭(zhēng)吵。
"Bring me the bill," he said to the steward.
“結(jié)賬。”他對(duì)侍者說(shuō)。
"The bill, sir?" said the man.
“結(jié)賬嗎，先生?”侍者問(wèn)。
"Yes," answered the traveler.
“是的。”他說(shuō)。
"There isn't any bill," was the answer, "on the ship meals are included in the passage money."
“不用付賬。”侍者說(shuō)，“船上的伙食是包括在船費(fèi)中的。”
