Pyongyang University of Science and Technology is North Korea’s first privately funded university. It opened in 2010. But, the head of the school says the university is facing financial difficulties because of international sanctions against North Korea.

平壤科學(xué)技術(shù)大學(xué)是朝鮮第一朵私立大學(xué)，建立于2010年。但是該校校長(zhǎng)表示，收到國(guó)際隊(duì)朝鮮的制裁影響，科技大學(xué)正面臨經(jīng)濟(jì)危機(jī)。

Chan-Mo Park is the university’s chancellor. He is a former computer science professor at the University of Maryland and a U.S. citizen who was born in South Korea.

平壤科技大學(xué)校長(zhǎng)樸臣莫(音譯：Chan-Mo Park )之前是馬里蘭大學(xué)的計(jì)算機(jī)科學(xué)教授，并且是出生在韓國(guó)的美國(guó)公民。

He told VOA on Wednesday, “We want to recruit South Korean professors, but the May 24 measure blocks it.”

他周三告訴美國(guó)之音，“我們想招聘韓國(guó)教授，但是5月24日制裁使這變?yōu)椴豢赡堋?rdquo;

He was referring to trade and exchange sanctions South Korea made against North Korea on May 24, 2010. The sanctions came after South Korea accused the North of sinking one of its naval boats and claiming the lives of 46 sailors.

他指的是韓國(guó)對(duì)朝鮮于2010年5月24日作出的貿(mào)易制裁。韓國(guó)指控朝鮮擊沉了韓國(guó)的一艘船，并有46名船員喪生。

North Korea’s nuclear and missile tests earlier this year have further isolated the country. In March, a United Nations Security Council resolution placed further restrictions on North Korea’s financial activity.

朝鮮今年初的核導(dǎo)彈試驗(yàn)使得其被國(guó)際社會(huì)進(jìn)一步孤立。三月份，聯(lián)合國(guó)安理會(huì)決議對(duì)朝鮮的經(jīng)濟(jì)活動(dòng)做進(jìn)一步制裁。

The school chancellor says that despite international tensions, the university is growing. It is largely supported by Western-based Evangelical Christians. It currently hosts about 500 enrolled students and 100 professors. Some are U.S. Citizens.

學(xué)校校長(zhǎng)表示盡管國(guó)際上對(duì)朝鮮有制裁，學(xué)校仍在發(fā)展。西方福音派基督徒為該校提供大部分支持。目前，該校共有500名在校生和100名教授。其中有些是美國(guó)公民。

Park says the school offers North Korean students rare opportunities to engage with Western-trained scientists.

樸臣莫說(shuō)學(xué)校為學(xué)生提供的與受過(guò)西方教育的科學(xué)家的交流機(jī)會(huì)很少。

“We were doing a virtual reality class and some students turned in materials about American hip hop music for their homework,” said Park. He described students as eager to learn about the outside world.

“我們正在上的課都是不現(xiàn)實(shí)的，學(xué)生們提交關(guān)于美國(guó)嘻哈英語(yǔ)的材料作為他們的作業(yè)。”樸臣莫說(shuō)。他還表示學(xué)生很渴望了解外面的世界。

Critics argue the institution could help the North Korean government further develop nuclear technology. Park said this is not the case. He said the school’s curriculum meets U.S. Regulations.
