　　1. 解詞釋義

　　Be back to square one的字面意思是“回到方塊一”，比喻為“失敗后回到起點(diǎn)，前功盡棄而一切重新開始”。它與棋盤游戲有關(guān)，square在這里是指“棋盤上的每一格”。無論玩什么棋，你都得從棋盤上的第一個(gè)方格跳起，如果一局中有人犯規(guī)，這盤棋就得毀掉而重新再來。

　　e.g. That idea hasn't worked, so we're back to square one.

　　那主意行不通, 得從頭再來。

　　e.g. If your complaint is not upheld, you may feel you are back to square one.

　　Ps 3：表示“某事情成功了”，可以說：Something works. Work在這里是不起作用的意思。某事物沒有”發(fā)揮出其作用”，那也就是“成功”了的意思。

　　Did the cleaning fluid work on that stain?

　　這種洗滌劑成功去掉那塊污斑嗎?

　　My plan worked, and I got them to agree.

　　我的想法成功了, 我讓他們同意了。
