Unit 8

Wedding Etiquette

Conversation 1

A : Hi, Lucy !

B : Hi. It's a wonderful wedding, isn't it?

A : Yes, It's very great.

B : Mary's father is a rich man , isn't he ?

A : You are right, Mary's father is responsible for the entire wedding-arrangement, costs , etc. I think he must spend much money.

B : Will Mary and her husband be ready to leave for their honeymoon?

A : Yes. Look! Mary is going to throw the bride bouquet.

B : Oh, I'll try to catch it.

Conversation 2

A : I have some good news for you .

B : What's that?

A : Jenny is getting married.

B : Great! Who's the bridegroom?

A : Tom , that lucky guy.

B : The guy always hands the girls in a line. When did he propose ?

A : Last week , It said that he fell in love with Jenny at Mrs.Whit's party last Monday as soon as he saw her.

B : My gosh! How romantic! When's the big day?

A : July4, the National Holiday.

B : Will it be a church wedding or a civil ceremony?

A ; Jenny plans to hold it in church.

B : Who is the best man?

A : Guess!

B : Nobody is OK, but you !

A : You know, Tom is my best friend and he asked me to be his best man .

B : Did you promise him?

A : Yes , I did.

Conversation 3

A : In my wedding ceremony , where do my parents sit in the church?

B : The bride's parents' seating arrangement is on the left side of the aisle and the groom's parents is on the right side.

A : Do friends of the bride always sit on one side of the church and friends of the groom on the other?

B : They usually do .

Conversation 4

A : Oh! You're engaged! What a beautiful engagement ring! Who to ?

B : Of course Mike. Who else? We fell in love at first sight.

A : When's the wedding going to be?

B : We haven't decided yet. There are a lot of things to sort out, you know.

A : Are you having a big wedding?

B : Yes, I've always dream of having a big wedding.

A : But what do you say about that?

B : I don't really enjoy big occasions, but I think I’ll come round to the idea in the end , It only happens once in a lifetime.

A : Perhaps I'll agree with Mike. I couldn't stand a big wedding with many relatives and friends of my parents or ma wife whom I'd never met before.

Conversation 5

A : Jack, do you take Mary to be your lawfully wedded wife?

B : I do .

A : Mary , do you take Jack to be your lawfully wedded husband?

B : I do .

A : B&C: For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health , till death do we part.

B : The rings ,please...I now pronounce you a husband and wife.
