[00:00.00]Unit 10 A project

[00:04.78]1.Listen,read and practice in pairs.

[00:11.34]Have you ever done a big assignment called a "project"?

[00:16.98]What's in a project? How long does it usually take?

[00:22.83]Why are students interested in projects?

[00:27.79]That's what LiMeng is going to find out.

[00:32.55]LiMeng:Hi,Daniel.You know what?

[00:36.52]Our English teacher asked us to do a mid-term project each.

[00:42.16]I need your help.

[00:45.32]Daniel:What kind of help do you need?

[00:48.98]LiMeng:I need to get some rough ideas about projects.

[00:53.84]Have you done one before?

[00:57.00]Daniel:Yeah.I once did a project on drunk-driving.

[01:01.86]I learned so many people died in car accidents.

[01:06.72]The number shocked me and my classmates.

[01:11.26]LiMeng:So you collected some numbers for your project?

[01:16.23]Daniel:Not just numbers.I also put a few pictures of accident scenes in it.

[01:23.20]I'm sure I'll never forget those.

[01:27.25]If you want to give a long-lasting impression, you should add some photos too.

[01:33.60]LiMeng:Is there anything else I should know?

[01:37.96]Daniel:Well,actually,

[01:41.12]the most important thing you should do is to choose an interesting topic.

[01:46.87]LiMeng:I know! The goldseekers should be an exciting topic.

[01:52.82]Daniel:Are you thinking about the Chinese goldseekers

[01:57.58]who came to Australia more than a hundred years ago?

[02:02.02]LiMeng:Yeah.I heard people talk about an old gold mine at Sovereign Hill.

[02:08.39]I think I should go and collect some first-hand information.

[02:13.54]Daniel:Right.You should take a digital camera along to get some snapshots.

[02:19.60]6.Listen,read and then answer in pairs.

[02:26.44]Have you ever seen a town that looks the same as it was more than 150 years ago?

[02:34.38]Can you imagine talking to people in old-fashioned clothes

[02:40.63]and eating cookies and pies that haven't changed for such a long thime?

[02:47.11]Have you walked in a cold, dark gold mine?

[02:52.56]Would you be afraid?Come to Sovereign Hill.

[02:58.31]Tour guide:Now,the first thing you should know is,follow me closely:

[03:03.67]or you'll never find your way out.

[03:07.64]LiMeng:Please,Miss.I can hear water running.

[03:12.00]Tour guide:Yes.Please come over, everyone.See this huge machine here?

[03:17.64]It's working 24 hours a day to pump out the water.

[03:22.32]If it stops, this place we're standing in will soon be deep in water.

[03:28.67]Xiaohong:Oh,my goodness.I hope we are safe here.

[03:33.50]Tour guide:Don't worry.Now,here,in this dark little place,

[03:38.64]the gold miners rested and ate their lunch.

[03:43.22]See those candles?Anyone knows what they are for.

[03:48.47]LiMeng:To help them see their food.

[03:52.62]Xiaohong:Yeah.Otherwise it'd be pitch-dark here and frightening.

[03:58.18]Tour guide:Actually,if the candlelight died down,

[04:02.55]the miners would run for their lives. You know why?

[04:07.88]10.Listen,read and act.

[04:14.15]In the classroom,LiMeng is telling his classmates about his trip to the gold mine.

[04:21.41]LiMeng:While we were underground,

[04:26.16]we also saw a movie which told a sad story about some Chinese gold miners.

[04:32.82]Peter:A movie shown underground in a real gold mine?I can't believe it.

[04:38.99]LiMeng:Yes.It was real.

[04:42.54]There's a place in the mine where you can actually see gold.

[04:47.90]Mary:Have you brought back some?

[04:51.34]LiMeng:Yes!Well,not gold,but some great photos!

[04:56.80]Look at this one.It's a candlemaking demonstration.

[05:02.16]And this one is a sweet making demo.It was really eye-catching.

[05:08.22]John:I seem to remember there's a gold museum down there.

[05:12.97]LiMeng:Correct!We also went there and saw an exciting exhibition--pieces of gold,

[05:20.05]old machines, old clothes, pictures of the old town, its history and everything.

[05:26.82]Mary:You should add those thikngs to your project.

[05:30.89]John:Yeah.Just think about them, stories, history and photos.

[05:36.74]If you put those things together nicely, you should produce something top-notch.

[05:43.72]12.Listen,read and lean.

[05:51.87]Have you got a good idea?

[05:55.92]Sitting in your classroom and gazing at the walls,

[06:01.38]I'm sure in a minute you may come up with some very good ideas

[06:06.94]about how to decorate those classroom walls.

[06:12.01]This may include placing students'assignments on those walls.

[06:18.36]You may also have many other ideas about how to make your classroom more beautiful.

[06:25.02]If you think harder and the teacher doesn't interrupt you,

[06:30.58]you may go on producing new and wonderful ideas.

[06:36.33]An idea is a thought or a picture that you have in your mind.

[06:42.10]Generally speakin, everybody has got some ideas.

[06:47.56]You may think about changing the classroom environment.

[06:52.89]You may also think about how to finish the teacher's assignments.

[06:58.32]However,good ideas and even brilliant ideas

[07:03.76]often need to be further developed by more careful thought and deeper thinking.

[07:10.52]If you think about your teacher's job for a while,

[07:15.57]you may think of ideas like making some dustless chalks for teachers

[07:21.94]and creating a kind of computer-controlled big white board.

[07:28.10]You may design a system which would let the teacher just

[07:32.96]press the next-page button on the computer so that a clean,

[07:39.42]white board would be presented right in front of the teacher.

[07:44.14]Brilliant ideas are very important.

[07:48.61]They can help us change our lives, change our perception of the world,

[07:54.85]and lead us into a new stage of living.

[07:59.61]Without creativity the human species would not have advanced

[08:05.77]and we'd still be living in caves.

[08:10.03]Everything associated with progress comes from ideas

[08:15.91]and the best ideas come from people using the proper tools and processes.

[08:22.67]No matter where they happen

[08:26.23]some new ideas and the waves they create will affect our job,

[08:32.39]our health, our prosperity and our world.

[08:37.85]A supermarket is loaded with ideas about what to eat.

[08:43.52]Most of which we could not remember if we were not in that environment.

[08:49.76]But as we walk through the supermarket each

[08:54.44]item reminds us of what we might have for dinner.

[08:58.98]As a result we can generate lots of ideas in a relatively short time.

[09:05.75]With excellent ideas,we can turn trash into treasure!

[09:12.12]We can make the best and fullest use of discarded glasses,

[09:18.08]bottles,boxes,old light bulbs,paper bags,dry leaves,

[09:26.02]egg shells and orphaned socks and create great craft projects and gifts.

[09:33.57]Ideas ate very important and necessary.

[09:39.00]The bottom line is"Have you got a good idea or a brilliant noe?"
