Author Casey McQuiston, who wrote the novel on which the film is based, will team up with the film's screenwriter and director, Matthew López, to write the script. Leads Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine are also set to reprise their roles.

Based on McQuiston's novel of the same name, the romantic comedy debuted last summer on Prime Video to much acclaim. The story follows the First Son of the United States, Alex Claremont-Diaz (Perez) and Prince Henry of England (Galitzine) as their fraught relationship slowly transforms into something more when the two are forced to fake a friendship after finding themselves at the center of a diplomatic incident.
