Following the closure of the elder abuse investigation of John Amos, the actor is speaking out.

“I want to first of all thank the LAPD for their professionalism and thoroughness in their investigation in which they concluded that I am doing well.” Amos, 84, said in a statement exclusively obtained by PEOPLE. "This is the same thing I have been saying all along in my response to the media."

It will shed light on the real truth as to the motives of those who have painted a false narrative about me. I am John Amos and quite frankly this mess is bringing out James Evans to stay."

The Los Angeles Police Department launched the investigation last month after Amos' daughter, Shannon, claimed her brother, Kelly C. "K.C.," wasn’t providing the appropriate care for their father amid his health issues.

On Monday, April 8, the LAPD confirmed to PEOPLE that they closed the case due to lack of evidence.
