South Korea notes Pyongyang's improved nuclear abilities

South Korea's defense ministry said North Korea appears to have gained a "significant" level of technology. The ministry said the North may be able to make a small nuclear device that could fit on the tip of a missile.

The ministry said North Korea has created about 40 kilograms of weapons-grade plutonium from reprocessing used nuclear fuel rods. The South Korean government said North Korea is working on an uranium enrichment program.

North Korea is believed to have the ability to develop missiles that could reach the United States mainland. It has carried out a series of long-distance missile tests.

The plane went down into the sea more than a week ago during a storm. The plane’s voice and information recorders still are missing.

Mr. Soelistyo also said a U.S. Navy ship used sonar signals to find two more metal objects. But it is not known yet if they are part of the missing plane. Fivelarge objects believed to have been part of the plane have been found so far.

Two more bodies were also found on Tuesday, for a total of 39. Only 16bodies have been identified and returned to their families.
