三、并列結構作主語

1.“and和both ...and連接的并列主語”通常作復數(shù)。

Plastics and rubber never rot.塑料和橡膠從不腐爛。

Walking and riding are good exercises.散步和騎車是很好的運動方式。

Rice and bread are my favorite food.米飯和面包都是我最喜歡的食物。

Both Tom and I are fond of medicine.我和湯姆都喜歡醫(yī)學。

2.and連接“成雙成對”的整體概念時，謂語動詞用單數(shù)。

A knife and fork is on the table.桌上有一副刀叉。

Egg and rice is her usual breakfast.她早上通常吃蛋炒飯。

A cart and horse was seen in the distance.遠處能看見有一套馬車。

They hired a car and driver.他們租了一輛配有司機的汽車。

Truth and honesty is the best policy.真誠是最好的策略。

3.and連接的兩個名詞若是指同一個人，謂語動詞用單數(shù)。

The teacher and writer is my uncle.這位教師作家是我叔叔。

The professor and doctor is a Chinese.這位教授兼醫(yī)生是中國人。

The girl’s teacher and friend is a young doctor.女孩的良師益友是一位年輕醫(yī)生。

The famous singer and dancer has come to Beijing.

這位著名的歌唱家兼舞蹈家已經(jīng)來到北京。

【比較】

①The poet and writer has come.那位詩人兼作家來了。（一個人）

②The poet and the writer have come.那位詩人和作家來了。（兩個人）

4.and連接“each，every，no，many a+名詞”作主語時，謂語動詞用單數(shù)。

Each boy and each girl wants to be the first.每個女孩，每個男孩，都想得第一。

Every boy and every girl enjoys equal rights here.

這里每個男孩和每個女孩都享有平等權益。

No teacher and no student is admitted.師生一律不準進入。

Many a teacher and many a student has spoken at the meeting.

許多學生和老師都在會上發(fā)了言。

5.“a+名詞+and a half，one and a half+名詞”作主語時，謂語動詞用單數(shù)。

One apple and a half is left on the table.桌上只留下一只半蘋果。

one and a half apples is left on the table.

6.one or two+名詞

（1）“one or two+復數(shù)名詞”作主語時，謂語動詞用復數(shù)。

One or two places have been visited.參觀了一兩個地點。

One or two spelling mistakes have been found in your composition.

你的作文中有一兩處錯誤。

（2）“a+名詞單數(shù)+or two”作主語時，謂語動詞用單數(shù)。

A worker or two is going to be sent to work abroad.

一兩個工人將被派往國外去工作。

A word or two is misused in the sentence.句子中誤用了一兩個單詞。
