二、介詞短語的句法作用

1.作定語

This is his reply to your letter.這是他給你的回信。

This is the best way of doing it.這是做此事最好的方法。

My love for you is deeper than the sea.我對你的愛比海深。

The girl in red is my sister.穿紅衣的那個女孩是我妹妹。

【提示】 介詞短語作定語總是置于它所修飾的名詞后面。

2.作狀語

We live in Hangzhou.我們住在杭州。（地點狀語）

She got here at four.她是4點到這兒的。（時間狀語）

They came here by train.他們乘火車來這兒。（方式狀語）

The game was postponed because of rain.因為下雨運(yùn)動會被推遲了。（原因狀語）

There will be no living things without water.沒有水就沒有生物。（條件狀語）

He ran for shelter.他跑去避雨。（目的狀語）

They play football in spite of the rain.他們冒雨踢足球。（讓步狀語）

To what extent would you trust them？ 你在多大程度上信任他們？（程度狀語）

3.作表語

He was with a friend.他和一個朋友在一起。

Health is above wealth.健康勝過財富。

This knife is for cutting bread.這把小刀是用于切面包的。

He’s in the office.他在辦公室。

4.作賓語補(bǔ)足語

I always find her at her studies.我經(jīng)常發(fā)現(xiàn)她在學(xué)習(xí)。

I found everything in good condition.我發(fā)現(xiàn)一切正常。

Her illness kept her in bed for a week.她因生病在床上躺了一星期。

He was regarded as a hero.他被看成是英雄。（主語補(bǔ)足語）

5.作介詞賓語

（1）from+介詞短語

Come out from under the table.從桌子下面出來。

He walked out from among the crowd.他從人群中走出來。

I saw her from across the street.我從街對面望見了她。

She had no sooner opened the door than a cat jumped out from behind the door.

她剛把門打開，一只貓就從門后跳了出來。

（2）until+介詞短語

She won’t go home until after the exam.她要考完試之后再回家。

She’s worked as a nurse until past her sixtieth birthday.

她一直到60歲都是護(hù)士。

（3）except+介詞短語

No admittance except on business.閑人莫入。

He cannot spare any time except on Sunday.除星期日外，他抽不出時間。

The window is never opened except in summer.除夏天外，這扇窗戶從不打開。

Steel pennies are scarce now except in coin shops.

除了在錢幣店內(nèi)，鋼幣便士現(xiàn)在很難見到了。
