用一個句子作狀語，這個句子就是狀語從句。狀語從句通常用來修飾句子、動詞或形容詞，表示時間、地點、條件、原因、目的、結果、方式、比較等。引導狀語從句的連詞叫從屬連詞。

16-6 結果狀語從句

在句中表示結果的狀語從句叫結果狀語從句。引導結果狀語從句的從屬連詞主要有so that，so ...that ...，such ...that ...等。

1.引導結果狀語從句的從屬連詞及用法

（1）so that引導結果狀語從句意為“以致；結果”。如：

We arrived early，so that we got good seats.我們到得很早，因此我們座位很好。

He studied hard so that he passed the exam.他學習用功，所以考試通過了。

（2）so ...that ...引導結果狀語從句意為“如此……以至于……”。如：

It was so hot that we wanted to go swimming.天氣太熱，我們想去游泳。

It was so dark that he couldn't see the faces of others.天是那樣黑，其他人的臉他都看不見了。

（3）such ...that ...引導結果狀語從句意為“如此……以至于……”。如：

They are such wonderful players that no one can beat them.他們都是出色的運動員，沒有人能戰(zhàn)勝他們。

She is such a good teacher that all the students like her.她是那么好的老師，每個學生都喜歡她。

注意：

so ...that和such ...that中的that有時（尤其在口語中）可省略。如：

I am so busy I have no time to write a letter.我很忙，連寫信的時間都沒有。

There was such a lot of rain （that）we couldn't go out.雨那么大，我們沒法出去。

2.結果狀語從句的位置

結果狀語從句總是位于主句的后面。如：

It was very cold so that the river froze.天氣寒冷，河水都結冰了。

Xiao Liu finished his work so well that the boss praised him in public.小劉工作完成得好，結果老板當眾表揚了他。

It is such a heavy box that nobody can move it away.這是一個很重的箱子，誰也搬不走。

3.so ...that與such ...that 的用法辨析

so ...that ...與such ...that ...都表示“如此……以至于……”，so后接形容詞或副詞，而such后接名詞。但有時“so+形容詞”后還可接一個名詞，且這個名詞總是帶不定冠詞的單數(shù)可數(shù)名詞，而不能是復數(shù)名詞或不可數(shù)名詞。如：

[正] He is so clever a child that we all like him.這小孩很聰明，我們都喜歡他。

[正] They are such clever children that we all like them.這些孩子很聰明，我們都很喜歡。

[誤] They are so clever children that we all like them.

注意：

①so ...that ...句型可與such ...that ...句型相互轉(zhuǎn)換。如：

It's such an interesting film that we all want to see it.這電影很有趣，我們都想看。

It's so interesting a film that we all want to see it.這電影很有趣，我們都想看。

②在much，many，little，few 這四個詞前總是用so而不用such。如：

He had so many falls that he was black and blue all over.他摔了許多跤，結果全身都是傷。

He earns so little money that he can hardly feed his family.他賺的錢很少，幾乎不能養(yǎng)家糊口。

③so ...that和such ...that有時引導的并不是結果狀語從句，應注意區(qū)分。如：

I'm so happy that you could visit us.我很高興你能來看望我們。（其中的so用于加強語氣，相當于very，that后引導的是賓語從句。）

It's such a great pleasure that you are here.你在這里，真是令人非常高興。（其中的that后引導的是主語從句，句首的it為形式主語。）
