　　can和could的用法

　　表示能力：能，能夠，會(huì)

　　He could swim when he was five. 他五歲時(shí)就會(huì)游泳了。

　　Can you drive a car? 你會(huì)開車嗎?

　　—Yes, I can. 我會(huì)。

　　—No, I can’t. 我不會(huì)。

　　表示推測(cè)：可能，會(huì)

　　I think the work can be completed ahead of time. 我認(rèn)為這項(xiàng)工作能提前完成。

　　What can he mean? 他會(huì)是什么意思?

　　注：表示推測(cè)時(shí)，could不是過(guò)去式，只是語(yǔ)氣更委婉;若是推測(cè)已發(fā)生的事或過(guò)去的情況，用can/could have加過(guò)去分詞。如：

　　Today is Sunday. He can’t/couldn’t be at school. 今天是星期天。他不可能在學(xué)校里。

　　Mike can’t have found his car, for he came to work by bus this morning. 邁克一定還沒(méi)有找回他的車，因?yàn)樵缟纤亲财噥?lái)上班的。

　　表示“有時(shí)也會(huì)”

　　It can be quite windy there, especially in spring. 那里有時(shí)容易刮風(fēng), 特別在春季。

　　表示允許：可以 (口語(yǔ)中常代替may)

　　You can first lend me one book this time. 這次你可以先借給我一本書。

　　You can’t take the book out of the room. 你不可以將這本書拿出室外。

　　注意：

　　1. 表示允許別人做某事只能用can，不能用could。

　　2. can’t 和 mustn’t 一樣，都可表示“不準(zhǔn)，不允許”。

　　表示請(qǐng)求：可以

　　Can I go swimming today, please, mum? 媽媽，我今天可以去游泳嗎?

　　Could you tell me how I can get to the railway station? 請(qǐng)告訴我去火車站怎么走嗎?

　　注意：could不是過(guò)去式，只是語(yǔ)氣較can更委婉，注意在回答中不可用could。如：

　　—Could I have the television on? 我可以開電視看嗎?

　　—Yes, you can. / No, you can’t. 可以。/ 不可以。

　　can與be able to的比較

　　(1) be able to比can有更多的時(shí)態(tài)。如：

　　In the past 50 years or so, scientists have been able to “see” farther and farther into the sky. 在過(guò)去50年里，科學(xué)家們已經(jīng)能夠往天空看得更遠(yuǎn)。

　　(2) 在表示過(guò)去具體某次能夠成功做成某事時(shí)，只能用was/were able to。如：

　　He worked very hard and was able to pass that examination. 他學(xué)習(xí)非常努力他以能夠通過(guò)了那場(chǎng)考試。
