Eric: Good morning Sabrina. How are you today?

埃里克：早上好塞布麗娜，今天好嗎?

Sabrina: I'm fine but my computer is on the fritz again.

塞布麗娜：我很好，可我的電腦又壞了。

Eric: Oh - I thought that the help desk had fixed that yesterday?

Sabrina: Yeah so did I. They told me that it was fixed but now it has a new bug.

Eric: Maybe it's a case of GIGO?

Ⅱ.單詞簡析

1) Fritz: slang word for something that is broken or not working properly

Fritz: 描述某物壞掉了或出現(xiàn)故障時的不正式說法

ex:My alarm clock is on the fritz and that is why I am late to work again.

我的鬧鐘壞了，所以我上班又遲到了。

2) Help Desk: a department in a company that can help you with any computer or printing problems

公司里專門幫助解決電腦或打印問題的部門

ex:The help desk staff in our company are always stressed out because the computers are old.

我們公司的電腦維修人員工作壓力一直很大，因為電腦太舊了。

3) Bug: a problem with a computer or computer software

電腦或電腦軟件出現(xiàn)的問題

ex:After we tested the new software, we found so many bugs that had to be fixed.

測試完新軟件后，我們發(fā)現(xiàn)有太多問題需要解決。

4) GIGO: Garbage In, Garbage Out. This is an old saying in computer programming. Computers can only do what you tell them and if you tell them the wrong thing, they will do the wrong thing.

無用輸入，無用輸出：電腦編程中的習(xí)慣說法。電腦只會按你的指示操作，如果你的指示是錯的，它們就會按錯誤指示去做。

ex:The help desk told me that my computer was working fine and the problem was caused by GIGO!

電腦維修人員說我的電腦運作正常，問題是由GIGO引起的。

5) Policies: rules that people should follow

ex:My company has a casual Friday dress policy so everyone wears relaxed clothing such as jeans and tee-shirts then.

6) Virus: nasty software that can destroy or delete your computer's files

Ⅲ.課文篇

The personal computer is one of the greatest tools ever invented by man and almost everyone in a company these days will need to be able to use one to do their job properly. Because computers are so important and expensive, most companies have policies about their use.

個人電腦是人類發(fā)明的最偉大的工具之一?，F(xiàn)在幾乎公司的每個員工都需要能用電腦正確工作。由于電腦很重要且貴重，大多數(shù)公司對于電腦的使用都做了規(guī)定。

Most companies are very careful about viruses these days. If you use floppy discs from others, you should always use a virus scanner before you put the disc in your computer.

現(xiàn)在多數(shù)公司對病毒都很小心。如果你用的是別人的軟盤，將軟盤插入電腦前應(yīng)該用查毒軟件檢查一下。

If the company gives you a password for your computer, you should not write it down on a piece of paper. Try to remember it instead.

如果公司給你電腦密碼，不要把它寫在紙上，試著將密碼記住。

If you can choose you own password, don't choose something that others could guess easily such as your name or birth date. Try to remember to change your password every month.

如可以自己選擇密碼，不要設(shè)置別人容易猜到的密碼，例如你的名字或生日。試著記得每月更換一次密碼。

Although MP3's and on-line chat are lots of fun, most companies don't like you use them at work during work time. Not only are you not working efficiently if you are chatting on-line but MP3s can make the Internet really slow for everyone else.

Linda : It seems that your computer is fixed now?

George: The guys from the help desk fixed it straight away.

Linda : Did they tell you what they found wrong with it?

George: They found a virus but I don't know how it got on my computer. I always used a virus scanner.

Linda : Maybe you caught the virus from the Internet.

George: No, our company has a strict policy about the Internet and I always follow it carefully.

Linda : Well, as long as was fixed, that's the main thing right?

琳達(dá)：只要修好了就行，這才是最重要的，對不對?

George: Absolutely. What did we do before computers were invented - I get so stressed when mine is on the fritz.

Linda : Right. I just wish that computers could make learning English easier!
