Dear Mom and Dad,

I’m finally through with all my midterm exams. I can’t say that I did as well as I hoped I would, but I didn’t do too bad, either. At least I passed all of them. I hope I can do even better on my finals.

Otherwise everything is going well. I’ve gone to a couple of football games over the past few weeks. Our team won only one game. They’re not really good, but it’s still fun to watch them play. I haven’t gone out as much in the past month because of all the tests. Don’t worry, Mom. I’m staying away from alcohol, except for a beer or two now and then.

By the way, do you think you could send me a little extra spending money? US$100 isn’t really enough.

我終于很順利的通過了期中考。我不能說我考得和我期待的一樣好，但也不至于太差。至少，都考及格了。我希望我可以在期末考時表現(xiàn)得更好。

其它方面也都滿順利的。我在過去幾個禮拜中去看了幾場足球賽。我們的隊伍僅贏了一場球賽。他們并非很好的球員，但看他們打球仍蠻有趣。因為這些考試的緣故，我在過去這一個月已沒那么常出去玩了。別擔(dān)心了，老媽。我現(xiàn)在除了偶爾喝一、兩杯啤酒以外是不碰酒的。

順便一提，您們可以寄一點零用錢給我嗎?一百塊美金實在不太夠。

字詞解說：

1. be through with…結(jié)束……

=be finished with. . .

=finish.，.

例;When the doctor was through with his examination, he made out a prescription for some medicine.

(醫(yī)師在看診之后就開了藥方。)

2. midterm 期中的

3. as. . . as.二和···一樣地……

注意:

在“as... as...”的短語中，第一個as為副詞，表“一樣地”，

而第二個as則為連接詞，表“和，與”之意。

例:That test wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

(那次考試沒有我所預(yù)期的那么難。)

4.例:We've learned a lot during the past few months.

(過去幾個月以來我們學(xué)了很多東西。)

5. win 贏得(比賽、戰(zhàn)爭等)

動詞三態(tài):win, won仁wnn}，won a

例:Hannibal won a lot of battles but lost the war.

(漢尼拔將軍打贏了很多戰(zhàn)役卻輸了那場戰(zhàn)爭。)

6. stay away from二避開/遠(yuǎn)離……

例;You should stay away from casinos unless you want to lose a lot of money.

(除非你想輸?shù)艉芏噱X，否則你應(yīng)該遠(yuǎn)離賭場。)

7. except for…除了……之外

=except...

例:He has been to every county in Taiwan except for Nantou.

(他除了南投縣沒去過外，曾去過臺灣省的每一個縣。)
