  1.anxious a. 憂慮的,發(fā)愁的,渴望的

  A: You don't have to be anxious about traveling an your own.You're no longer a tittle child.

  甲:你不必?fù)?dān)心獨(dú)自旅行。你不再是小孩子了。

  B: But this is my first time to travel alone. I'm also feeling a bit scared.

  乙:可這是我第一次單獨(dú)旅行啊。我還是覺得有點(diǎn)兒害怕。

  2.be in a flap about 對(duì)……感到慌張

  A: I'm really in a flap about the coming exam.

  甲:一想到考試即將來臨,我就慌張極了。

  B: Take it easy.

  乙:別擔(dān)心。

  3.blue a. 沮喪的

  A: What's wrong with her?

  甲:她怎么了?

  B: She's feeding blue because she didn't do welt in the exam.

  乙:她因考試沒考好感到沮喪。

  4.down in the dumps 沮喪的,憂郁的,悶悶不樂的

  A: Why didn't you go to the party last night?

  甲:你昨晚為什么不參加聚會(huì)?

  B: I've been feeling a bit down in the dumps lately.

  乙:我最近感覺有些沮喪。

  5.dreadful a. 可怕的

  A: Did any pedestrians get injured in the dreadful accident?

  甲:有行人在這場(chǎng)可怕的事故中受傷嗎?

  B: Yes, some got terribly injured. The careless drier should be held responsible for it.

  乙:有,有些傷勢(shì)嚴(yán)重。那個(gè)粗心大意的司機(jī)應(yīng)為事故負(fù)責(zé)。

  6.fear n./v. 恐怖,害怕,擔(dān)心

  A: Why don't you go to the dentist since you're having toothache?

  甲:既然牙疼為什么不去看牙醫(yī)呢?

  B: I fear to go to the dentist. My fear of dentists dates back to when I was a teenager.

  乙:我害怕看牙醫(yī)。我從十幾歲起就開始害怕牙醫(yī)。

  7.fearful a. 恐怕的,擔(dān)心的

  A: Is the suspect proven innocent?

  甲:這個(gè)嫌疑犯被證明無罪嗎?

  B: blot yet. He's guilty for sure, so he is fearful of another trial.

  乙:還沒有。其實(shí)他的確有罪在身,所以害怕再次受審。

  8.frighten v. 驚恐,使驚恐

  A: It frightens me when I have to walk home late in the dark.

  甲:夜里很晚回家時(shí)總覺得恐懼。

  B: Yes, that sort of thing can be frightening, but you should try to keep calm. It used to make the frightened when I was all alone in the house.

  乙:是啊,這事的確會(huì)使人感到恐懼,不過你應(yīng)盡力保持鎮(zhèn)靜。過去我獨(dú)自在家時(shí)也常感到恐懼。

  9.glee sb. the creeps 使某人毛骨驚然

  A: I hate nights. They give me the creeps.

  甲:我痛恨夜幕的降臨,它們總使我毛骨驚然。

  B:Me too.

  乙:我也是這樣。

  10.grief n. 悲痛,傷心

  A: What's the matter with her?

  甲:她怎么了?

  B: She fees great grief over her mother's death.

  乙:她對(duì)她母親的去世感到很悲痛。

  11.grieve v. 使悲痛

  A: Why does he look so sad?

  甲:他為什么難過?

  B: He grieves the loss of his dog.

  乙:他為失去他的狗感到難過。

  12.horrible a. 可怕的

  A: Why did you scream in your sleep?

  甲:你睡覺時(shí)為什么尖叫?

  B: I had a horrible dream in which I was about to he swallowed by a monster.

  13.horrify v. 使恐懼

  A: We were horrified to see the teachers living in such horrible conditions.

  B: But we seldom hear them complain about that.

  乙:可我們很少聽到他們對(duì)此抱怨。

  14.pity n. 遺憾,可惜

  A: We overslept and failed to catch the train.

  甲:我們睡過點(diǎn)了,沒趕上火車。

  B: It's a pity you missed the express.

  乙:很遺憾你們沒趕上那次快車。

  15.scare v. 驚嚇,恐慌

  A: It scares me when I have to travel by air.

  甲:一想到乘飛機(jī)旅行我就感到恐懼。

  B: Really? You shouldn't let it worry you.

  乙:真的嗎?你不該為這事?lián)鷳n。

  16.scared a. 害怕的,嚇壞了的

  A: I often get waned when someone suddenly appears from behind.

  甲:當(dāng)有人從身后突然出現(xiàn)時(shí),我總是嚇一跳。

  B: Yes, that sort of thing can be terrifying, but you should warm yourself anything may occur at any time.

  乙:是啊,這種情況會(huì)很嚇人的,不過你應(yīng)警告自己意想不到的事隨時(shí)都可能發(fā)生。

  15.sorrowful a. 悲傷的

  A: I wander why she gave me sorrowful looks.

  甲:我不明白她為什么面帶悲傷的表情看著我。

  B: Her husband's lost the erection.

  乙:她丈夫在選舉中失敗了。

  16.terrify v. 使驚嚇

  A: I was terrified out of my mind just now.

  甲:剛才我快要被嚇?biāo)懒恕?/p>

  B: Come on, there's nothing to worry about.

  乙:別擔(dān)心。

  17.uneasy a. 憂慮的,不舒服的

  A: What's eating you?

  甲:你在想什么?

  B: Um... I'm very uneasy about her health.

  乙:我非常攙心她的健康。
