I went to a small charter school for middle school. Our English/literature teacher was brand new to teaching, if I remember correctly she was only 22 which seemed odd at the time. She always did her best to be so cheerful and make learning fun. But the thing that truly solidified her spot as my favorite teacher was that for every student’s birthday she would give you a personalized mini notebook.

我中學(xué)在一所小型特許學(xué)校讀書(shū)。我們的英文文學(xué)老師是新來(lái)的，如果我沒(méi)記錯(cuò)的話，她當(dāng)時(shí)只有22歲，這在那時(shí)是不常見(jiàn)的。她總是很陽(yáng)光，也盡力讓學(xué)習(xí)變得有趣。但真正讓她成為我最喜歡的老師的原因是，在每個(gè)學(xué)生的生日那天，她都會(huì)送給那個(gè)學(xué)生一個(gè)專屬的小筆記本。

It was just a simple small composition notebook but she had filled the first couple pages telling me how much she loved having me as a student, how far she knew I would go, and other affirmations. It seems small but as a 13 year old who had a crappy home life it made all the difference in how I acted the rest of the year.

Junior year of high school, English class. We were discussing a story we had read. One student (let's call him Carl,) made a point. The teacher was dismissive and basically said Carl was wrong.

The next day, after we took our seats the teacher said, "Before we begin, I was thinking about what Carl said yesterday. I was wrong to dismiss it so quickly. Let's take a look at that again."

第二天，我們就座后，這位老師說(shuō)：“在我們開(kāi)始之前，我在思考卡爾昨天說(shuō)的話。我這么快就否定它是不對(duì)的。讓我們?cè)倏纯催@個(gè)觀點(diǎn)。”

He then went on to repeat Carl's point and initiate a conversation with the entire class. After the conversation, it became apparent Carl's point was indeed off base, but I was impressed the teacher publicly owned his mistake and went down the path he should have.

接著他復(fù)述了卡爾的觀點(diǎn)，并開(kāi)始和全班同學(xué)討論。經(jīng)過(guò)一番討論，卡爾的觀點(diǎn)顯然是站不住腳的，但令我印象深刻的是，這位老師公開(kāi)承認(rèn)了自己的錯(cuò)誤，做了他應(yīng)該做的。

When I was in the 1st grade my mother gave me one of MANY really awful haircuts. The first day back at school afterward the kids picked on me horribly. So much that I ran out and hid. The principal found me and we went back to the classroom and he asked me to wait outside for a minute while he talked to the class. He then walked me to his office and bought me a Coke.

一年級(jí)的時(shí)候，媽媽給我剪了個(gè)非常丑的發(fā)型?；氐綄W(xué)校后的第一天，同學(xué)們狠狠地捉弄我，我跑出去藏了起來(lái)。校長(zhǎng)找到了我，把我?guī)Щ亟淌遥屛以谕饷娴纫环昼?，先進(jìn)去和全班同學(xué)講話。然后他帶我來(lái)到辦公室，給我買了一瓶可樂(lè)。

The next day - first thing in the morning - we had an assembly with the entire school and he walked up on stage with his head shaved completely bald and talked about bullying and the like.

第二天，早上一到學(xué)校我們就召開(kāi)了一次全校大會(huì)，校長(zhǎng)走上臺(tái)，他剃了個(gè)光頭。他說(shuō)了霸凌以及相關(guān)的話題。

Some twenty years down the road he had retired and I ran into him at the local college. I shook his hand and said, "You probably don't remember me, but,"

大約二十年后，他退休了，我在當(dāng)?shù)氐拇髮W(xué)里遇到了他。握手之后，我說(shuō)，“你可能不記得我了，但是……”

"yes I do," he interrupted and said my name and the event.

“不，我記得你，”他打斷了我的話，說(shuō)出了我的名字和那件事。

The man was and is a hero in my eyes.

When I was a kid we had to purchase these red punch cards to get lunch at school. Unfortunately we didn't have that much money so there were times where my punch card would run out and I wasn't able to eat for a while until we got enough money to repurchase another one. I had one teacher who noticed I wasn't eating every day and she would bring an extra sandwich and offer it to me whenever she saw that. I really didn't understand how kind that was when I was a kid but obviously as an adult that was such an amazing gesture of kindness.

在我小時(shí)候，我們?cè)趯W(xué)校吃午飯要花錢買一個(gè)紅色的打孔卡。那時(shí)候我們沒(méi)什么錢，有時(shí)我的打孔卡用完了，還沒(méi)錢買新的，就會(huì)吃不上飯。有一位老師，她發(fā)現(xiàn)我不是每天都吃飯，她會(huì)多帶一個(gè)三明治，看到我沒(méi)吃就會(huì)給我。當(dāng)時(shí)我還是個(gè)孩子，我還無(wú)法真正理解這個(gè)舉動(dòng)包含的善意，但長(zhǎng)大后，我不禁感嘆她是多么的善良。
