的擁有者(Most Excellent Order of the British Empire，簡稱 MBE)，是一名搖滾音樂家，歌手，作曲家，藝術(shù)家，演員，和平主義者。他因?yàn)榕^士樂隊(duì)(The Beatles)的創(chuàng)始人之一而享譽(yù)世界。列儂和保羅麥卡特尼(Paul McCartney)的組合是最成功最有影響力的歌曲創(chuàng)作組合之一，他們共同創(chuàng)作出了歷史上最著名的搖滾歌曲。Lennon在電視中，電影(如A Hard Day's Night一夜狂歡)中，著作(如In His Own Write自寫集)中，采訪中展現(xiàn)出了放任不羈的性格和過人的機(jī)智。他作為和平主義者、藝術(shù)家的一些事跡飽受爭議。
在The Beatles時(shí)期之后，Lennon成為了一名出色的獨(dú)唱歌手，在此期間，他發(fā)行了"Give Peace a Chance"和"Imagine"等著名歌曲。經(jīng)過1976到1980年的短暫隱退，Lennon帶著他的全新專輯復(fù)出。但是，一月之后，他于1980年12月8日在紐約被偽裝成歌迷的殺手槍殺。
Lennon有兩個(gè)兒子:Julian Lennon(首任妻子Cynthia所生)，Sean Ono Lennon(第二任妻子，日本先鋒藝術(shù)家小野洋子所生)。
2002年，根據(jù)BBC的民意調(diào)查，John Lennon被評定為有史以來最偉大的100位英國人中的第8位。2004年，在滾石音樂雜志的評論“流芳百世的人物:有史以來最偉大的50名流行音樂藝術(shù)家”中，John Lennon名列第38位，而他和Paul McCartney一手創(chuàng)建的The Beatles則名列第一。
