　　燈籠(lantern)又稱為燈彩，起源于1800多年前的西漢時期。在古代，燈籠的主要作用是照明?，F(xiàn)在，燈籠綜合了繪畫藝術(shù)、剪紙(paper cutting )、紙扎、刺縫(seam)等工藝，已經(jīng)變成了一種供收藏與欣賞的傳統(tǒng)工藝品。每逢佳節(jié)慶典到處都可以看到燈籠，特別是元宵節(jié)和中秋節(jié)，人們都掛起象征團(tuán)圓意義的紅燈籠，來營造一種喜慶的氛圍。后來在中國燈籠就成了喜慶的象征。

　　Lanterns, also known as colored lights, originatedfrom the Western Han Dynasty of more than 1,800years ago. They were mainly used for lighting inancient times, while nowadays they have alreadybecome a kind of traditional art and craft for collection and appreciation, combining variouskinds of crafts, such as painting, paper cutting, paper crafts and seam. 　　1.起源于:可譯為originate from。也可以翻譯為derivefrom，但這個詞組常用被動形式。

　　2.西漢時期:應(yīng)譯為Western Han Dynasty,除了西漢，還有如北宋、南宋、東晉等這樣的朝代名，翻譯時“東西南北”這四個字分別要譯為Eastern, Western, Southern,Northern。此外，還有后漢、后周這樣的朝代名，其中的“后”應(yīng)翻譯為Later。

　　3.傳統(tǒng)工藝品:應(yīng)譯為traditional art and craft。

　　4.元宵節(jié)和中秋節(jié):“元宵節(jié)”翻譯成the Lantern Festival, “中秋節(jié)”翻譯 成the Mid-Autumn Festival。由于這里不是指特定的某一個元宵節(jié)或中秋節(jié)，所以Festival要采用復(fù)數(shù)形式，表示“每逢…”的意思。

　　5.…的象征:可譯為the symbol of...symbol有“象征;符號”的意思。
