　　 在常用詞translate, relate, superlative和legislate中，詞根lat來自拉丁動名詞latum，本意是to carry（持）；to bring（帶）或to bear（擔(dān)負(fù)，產(chǎn)生）。讀者也許還記得：詞根fer與此同義。其實(shí)，lat正是不規(guī)則拉丁動詞ferre的動名詞詞干。由于lat的形態(tài)與fer相去甚遠(yuǎn)，又有相當(dāng)強(qiáng)的孳生能力，所以把它作為常用詞根，單獨(dú)處理。
