　　 常用詞centre，central，centric和concentrate的共同成分是centr。它是隨著法語進入英語的拉丁化的希臘詞。遠祖是希臘名詞kentron，意為sharp point（尖端）。kentron的拉丁化形式是cenrtum，因為“尖端點”的概念與“中心點”緊密相連，所以又添上the middle point（中心）的含義。不妨說centr相當于the middle point，或者等于它在英語中的替身——center（中心）。
