Today, we are told , children don’t spend enough time in thefresh air. Many of them are addicted to a screen either on a computer or aTV—they seem to be living in a virtual world. They have lost touch with nature.
But now 400 organizations in the UK, from playgroups to the National Health Service, are encouraging children to have some “wild time”.They want kids to swap at least 30 minutes of watching TV or playing computergames for time playing outside. Activities such as building dens, climbingtrees, rummaging for conkers and playing hide and seek are just some of thethings kids can do. Even if they live in a city, they can go on adventures inthe garden or the park.
Children often need a helping hand from mom and dad. Theyneed to be shown what to do and where to go. Andy Simpson from National HealthService says, “We want parents to see what this magical wonder product does fortheir kids’ development, independence and creativity., by giving wild time a go”.
So despite the complicated world that young people grow up innow, it seems that going back to basics and experiencing “nature’s playground”is what modern children need. David Bond from Project Wild Thing says, “We needto make more space for wild time in children’s daily routine, freeing thisgeneration of kids to have the sort of experiences that many of us took forgranted”.
This might sound a bit old fashioned to you or maybe, likeme, it’s made you think about sticking on your boots, getting outdoors andrelieving your childhood. There’s no age limit on enjoying yourself!

Dear Mr White,
I heard that you are planning to invite for a famous scientist to give us a speech, so I’m writing to ask whether we can have a speech giving by Professor Martin Karplus.
Born in March 15, 1930, Professor Martin Karplus is a Austrian-born American theoretical chemist. She works as a professor of chemistry at Harvard University.
I have two reasons asking for him to give us a speech. One is that the Karplus equation is named after him, but the other is that he receives the 2013 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, together with two other colleagues.
Thank you for read my letter. I hope you can consider my suggestion serious.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Dear Peter,
Hi, I had an opportunity to take part in social practice last winter vacation.
During the winter holiday,I figured I should do something meaningful instead of staying at home,so I got a job at Dicos, a fast food restaurant and worked there as a cleaner.I worked seven hours a day for four weeks. Hard and boring, the job seemed endless, which made me so tired that I nearly gave it up half way. After all,I stuck to it with determination. Every day I started off for work early in the morning and got home late in the evening. Finally I finished the job before the new term began.
I met with a lot of unexpected difficulties in the work, but they helped me understand better what labor means.I suppose it is really a successful experience.
Yours,
Li Hua
