介詞賓語從句

介詞后面的賓語從句通常是由wh-連接構(gòu)成的，這是因?yàn)榇蟛糠纸樵~后不能接that引導(dǎo)的賓語從句。即使有例外，也僅限于一些固定搭配，例如：in that（因?yàn)椋?、but that（要不是）、except that（除了）、save that（除了）、besides that（除了）和beyond that（除了）。

【例1】 　Whether he can succeed depends on how well he operates.

【譯文】 　他是否能夠成功取決于他的操作水平。

【例2】 　Whether we find a joke funny or not largely depends on where we have been brought up.

【譯文】 　我們覺得一則笑話是否可笑，很大程度上取決于我們是哪里長大的。

【例3】 　He was not conscious of what a big mistake he had made.

【譯文】 　他沒有意識到他犯了一個(gè)大錯(cuò)。

例外情況如下：

【例4】 　He failed to arrive at the airport punctually in that he had suffered a terrible traffic jam.

【譯文】 　他之所以沒能準(zhǔn)時(shí)到達(dá)機(jī)場是因?yàn)樗龅搅藝?yán)重的塞車。

【例5】 　The essay was perfect except that there were some misprints.

【譯文】 　除了一些拼寫錯(cuò)誤，這篇文章是很優(yōu)秀的。

【例6】 　She knew nothing besides that he was such a bore.

【譯文】 　她只知道他是個(gè)討厭鬼，別的一無所知。

【例7】 　He was at a loss what to do beyond that the situation demanded something romantic.

【譯文】 　這種場合是要有點(diǎn)浪漫的，除此以外，他很迷茫，不知該做什么。

【例8】 　 But that I saw it I could not have believed it.

【譯文】 　要不是親眼看到，我是不會相信的。

【例9】 　There was not a sound save that from time to time a child cried.

【譯文】 　除了不時(shí)傳來的孩子的哭聲，沒有一點(diǎn)聲音。
