General Information 基本概況

Zhejiang University is a state key university with a long history and under the direct administration of China's Ministry of Education. Qiushi Academy，the predecessor of Zhejiang University，was founded in 1897 and is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning ever established in China. Reputed as“the East Cambridge" in history，it has always been ranked among the few top universities in China in terms of its comprehensive academic strength showed in teaching，research and social service. In September 1998，a new Zhejiang University was established on the basis of the amalgamation of the four former individual universities，namely Zhejiang University，Hangzhou University，Zhejiang Agricultural Universify and Zhejiang Medical University，which were ail located in the garden city of Hangzhou. After more than one hundred years of construction and development,Zhejiang University has become a national first-rate and world-renowned，research-oriented comprehensive university with solid foundation，strong potentials and its own distinctive features. It is also one of the first group of universities in national“Project 211”and“Project 985”.

浙江大學(xué)是一所具有一悠久歷史、教育部直屬的全國重點(diǎn)大學(xué)，前身求是書院成立于1897年，為中國人自己創(chuàng)辦最早的高等學(xué)府之一。被譽(yù)為“東方劍橋”的浙江大學(xué)一直是中國為數(shù)不多、綜合學(xué)術(shù)實(shí)力位于前列的著名大學(xué)。1998年9月，在杭的四所學(xué)校，即浙江大學(xué)、杭州大學(xué)、浙江農(nóng)業(yè)大學(xué)、浙江醫(yī)科大學(xué)重新合并，組建為今日的浙江大學(xué)。經(jīng)過100多年的建設(shè)與發(fā)展，學(xué)校已成為一所基礎(chǔ)堅(jiān)實(shí)、實(shí)力雄厚，特色鮮明，居于國內(nèi)一流水平，在國際上有較大影響的研究型、綜合型大學(xué)，是首批進(jìn)人國家“211工程”和“985計(jì)劃“建設(shè)的若干所重點(diǎn)大學(xué)之一。

Zhejiang University is located in Hangzhou City of Zhejiang Province，a Chinese well-known historical and cultural city，and endowed with a pleasant climate，picturesque surroundings and a favorable academic atmosphere. Zhejiang University is an ideal place for teaching，research，and learning. With six campuses，namely Yuquan，Xixi，Huajiachi，Hubin，Zhijiang，and Zijin'gang，the university now occupies a total area of 533 hectares and a floor space of over 2 000 000 square meters.

學(xué)校位于中國歷史文化名城—浙江省杭州市。校園依山傍水，環(huán)境幽雅，花木繁茂，碧草如茵，景色宜人，是讀書治學(xué)的理想園地。學(xué)校設(shè)玉泉、西溪、華家池、湖濱、之江、紫金港等6個(gè)校區(qū)，占地面積5. 33平方公里，校舍總建筑面積200余萬平方米。

With a total space of 83 000 square meters，the university library has a collection of more than 6 260 000 volumes. In addition，the university has 6 affiliated hospitals of 5 459 beds in total.

學(xué)校圖書館總建筑面積8. 3萬余平方米，總藏書量626萬余冊(cè)。此外，學(xué)校擁有附屬醫(yī)院6家，總床位數(shù)5 459張。

The fields of study of the new Zhejiang University cover eleven branches of learning，namely philosophy, economics，law, education，literature，history，science，engineering，agriculture，medicine and management. The university now has 115 specialties for undergraduate studies，and it is entitled to confer master's degrees in 312 programs of the second level，doctoral degrees in 41 programs ir,the first level，doctoral degrees in 237 programs in the second level and 39 postdoctor research stations. Under its administration there are 13 National Key Laboratories，2 National Engineering Research Centers，3 National Engineering Technology Centers，3 National Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences. Besides，it has set up 24 National key specialties.

At present，the total number of full time students has reached over 44 000 including more than 24 900 undergraduates，over 11 000 postgraduates working for master's degrees and over 6 000 Ph. D. candidates and over 1 200 overseas students. There are also nearly 37 000 students taking courses in degree and nondegree programs in adult education.

全校有全日制在校學(xué)生44 000余人，其中本科生24 900余人，碩士研究生11 000余人，博士研究生6 000余人，外國留學(xué)生1 200余人。另有攻讀專業(yè)研究生學(xué)位及非學(xué)位等成人教育生37 000余人。

Among its 8 400 staff members and workers，there are 13 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences，9 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering，over 1 100 full professors and over 2 400 associate professors.

學(xué)校師資力量雄厚，現(xiàn)有教職工8 400余人，其中中國科學(xué)院院士13人，中國工程院院士9人;教授及其他正高職人員1 100余人，副教授及其他副高職人員2 400余人。

Glorious History 歷史變遷

1897 Came into existence as Qiushi Academy.

1897年浙江大學(xué)的前身—求是書院創(chuàng)建。

1928 Renamed National Chekiang(Zhejiang University) University.

1928年改名為國立浙江大學(xué)。

]936 Moved west and reputed as“Cambridge of the East".

1936年浙江大學(xué)被迫輾轉(zhuǎn)西遷貴州，被譽(yù)為“東方劍橋“。

1946 Moved back to Hangzhou.

1946年學(xué)校遷返杭州。

1952 During the readjustment of China's Education System in 1952，Zhejiang University was divided into several monodisciplinary colleges while some of its disciplines were merged into other universities.

1952年全國高等學(xué)校院系進(jìn)行調(diào)整，浙江大學(xué)的部分院系或獨(dú)立成校，或調(diào)整到兄弟院校組合重新建校。

1998 The former Zhejiang University，Hangzhou University，Zhejiang Agricultural University，Zhejiang Medical University successfully reunited into a new comprehensive Zhejiang University.

1998年原浙江大學(xué)、杭州大學(xué)、浙江農(nóng)業(yè)大學(xué)、浙江醫(yī)科大學(xué)合并組建為新的浙江大學(xué)。
