B: Which part are you interested in?

A: The Statue of Liberty, I need to do some research about it.

B: It was presented by the people of France to the people of the United States in 1886 to honor the friendship between the two nations. Nowadays we consider it to be a symbol of liberty throughout the world.

A: Yes, and America couldn't have been liberated from Britain without the help of the French. Wow! It says here chat more than 5 million people visit the statue every year. That's a lot of people.

B: The statue pan is 115 feet tall and che pedestal is 89 feet tall tons !

B:Actually, the statue is made from steel coated with copper and the pedestal is made from granite.

B:You're right. It was designed by Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi, but the interior framework was designed by Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel, also designer of the Eiffel Tower.

B: Not entirely, the pedestal was designed by an American architect, Richard Morris Hunt. But many people on both sides of the Atlantic put money into her construction.
