A: Hi Fang. Every time I see you, you've got your head stuck in a book!
 
你好，芳。每次看到你，你都在埋頭讀書。
 
B:I'm reading a poetry book by Xu Zhimo. It is so great.
 
我正在讀一本徐志摩的詩集，他的話真不錯。
 
A: I know him! Besides poetry, he also wrote some prose.
 
我知道他！除了詩，他也寫散文吧。
 
B:True. I like his style very much, you know, he was the pioneer in Chinese modem poetry movement.
 
對。我非常喜歡他的風(fēng)格。你知道嗎，他是中國現(xiàn)代詩歌運動的先驅(qū)。
 
A: Does it mean that they write in the vernacular style?
 
就是說他們用白話創(chuàng)作對吧？
 
B:Yes. I can't believe that you know so much about Chinese literature! Only a few people outside China know him.
 
對。真不敢相信，你對中國文學(xué)有如此多的了解，其實國外知道他的人很少。
 
A: It's a Chinese friend who introduced his works to me. I only wish I know Chinese better，thus I can understand more about his poetries.
 
是一位中國朋友介紹他的詩作給我的。真希望自己的漢語水平再高一些，這樣我就能讀懂更多他的詩歌了。
 
B: Actually, his story was wide-spreading in China, especially his love stories with three womenZhang Youyi, Lin Huiyin and Lu Xiaoman.
 
實際上在中國，他的故事廣為流傳，特別是他和三位女性的愛情故事——張幼儀、林徽因和陸小曼。
 
A:So that is part of the reason why he can write such great poems!
 
他能寫出這么棒的話，肯定也和這個有關(guān)！
 
B: Definitely. His poems like “By chance” were loved by millions of people.
 
肯定的。很多人都很喜歡他的詩歌，比如說《偶然》。
 
A: I think the most famous one is “Saying Good-bye to Cambridge Again”？ The Cambridge even installed a white marble stone to commemorate him with verses of this poem carved upon it.
 
我想他的詩中最著名的應(yīng)該是那首《再別康橋》吧？為了紀念他，劍橋大學(xué)豎起了一座白色石碑，上面刻的就是《再別康橋》中的名句。
 
B: True. He must have spent a wonderful time in Cambridge which enables him to produce beautiful verses like that.
 
對啊。他肯定在劍橋度過了一段十分美好的時光，要不然他也寫不出這么好的詩句。
 
A: I'm wondering since there are so many bridges over the Cam, which one is the bridge he mentioned in the poem?
 
我在想，既然康河上有那么多的橋，他詩中提到的究竟是哪一座呢？
 
B: I have no idea. It seems that there are many disputes over that. Some said that it is the Byron Bridge; some said it is the Mathematical Bridge and some said it must be the Bridge of Sighs.
 
我也不知道。對于這一點，好像有很多爭議。有些人說是拜倫橋，有些人說是數(shù)學(xué)橋，還有些人說肯定是嘆息橋。
 
A: This poem is loaded with love and romance.
 
這首詩充溢著愛和浪漫。
 
B: Yes, the rhythm and words are so delicate. Some said that he wrote this for Lin Huiyin.
 
對啊。這首詩辭藻華麗，朗朗上口。有人說，這是特別為林徽因作的。
 
A: One of the three women Xu has ever involved himself in?
 
是那三個女人中的一位嗎？
 
B: Yes. By chance Zhimo met Lin Huiyin in a London International Union and fell in love with her. Both Zhimo and Huiyin were interested in literature and they often met to discuss about literature after they first met.
 
對。徐志摩在倫敦國際聯(lián)盟遇到了林徽因，之后就愛上了她。他們兩人都對文學(xué)感興趣，之后就常常相約一起談?wù)撐膶W(xué)。
 
A: Miss Lin must be charming girl.
 
這位林小姐一定是位有魅力的女子。
 
B:That's for sure. She was beautiful, elegant and smart and later became a famous architect as well as a writer in China. Zhixno was so in love with Huiyin that he request to divorce with Zhang Youyi.
 
當然啦，她美麗優(yōu)雅又冰雪聰明，之后成為了中國著名的建筑設(shè)計師。徐志摩十分愛慕林徽因，甚至向張幼儀提出了離婚。
 
A:He has already got married then?
 
他那個時候已經(jīng)結(jié)婚了嗎？
 
B: He was married when he was 18 years old. The marriage was arranged by his parents. In old China, children had no say in that.
 
他18歲的時候就結(jié)婚了，是由父母安排的。在舊社會，子女們通常無權(quán)作主婚姻大事。
 
A: He must be unhappy then.
 
他那時候肯定不幸福。
 
B: Definitely. The two then divorced in Berlin in March 1922. At the same time, Huiyin left for China with her father. When Zhimo knew that, he went back to China immediately.
 
肯定的。1922年，他們在柏林離了婚。同時，林徽因和她父親回到了中國。徐志摩一聽說這個，馬上趕了回去。
 
A: What happened next? Have they met each other then?
 
之后呢？他們見面了嗎？
 
B: Yes. But by the time he found her, she had become the wife of Liang Sicheng, the son of Zhimo's teacher Liang Qichao. Zhimo felt desperate and experienced the hardest period of time in his life.
 
見了。但是當他見到林徽因的時候，她已經(jīng)成為了梁思成的妻子。梁思成是徐志摩的老師梁啟超的兒子。徐志摩非常的絕望，好長一段時間都十分沮喪。
 
A: How about the third woman in his life?
 
那另外一個女人是怎么回事？
 
B: She was called Lu Xiaoman. Originally, she was the wife of Xu’s friend, who was very popular in the Beijing upper class society. I can tell you the details next time.
 
她叫陸小曼，開始是徐志摩一位朋友的妻子，是當時北京的社交名媛。我以后再詳細跟你講吧。
 
A: OK. Xu died in a plane crash when he was young, is that true?
 
好的。徐志摩死于一次飛機事故，那時他還很年輕，對嗎？
 
B: Yes, at age 34. He never stopped pursuing truth, beauty and freedom until he died. His death was a great loss for Chinese literature. If he did not die so early, he might have done much more for Chinese literature as well as the world literature.
 
是的，他那時只有34歲。他的一生從未停止過對真理、美好和自由的追求。他的死對中國文學(xué)來說是一個巨大的損失。如果不是英年早逝，他肯定能為中國文學(xué)乃至世界文學(xué)的發(fā)展作出更大的貢獻。
