A: So, Ruthie, what did you do today?
 
魯斯，你今天做什么了？
 
B: Well, I got up quite early this morning, actually, to go shopping.
 
我今天早上起得很早，然后去購(gòu)物了。
 
A: Oh, yeah! (Yeah) Ooh, shopping.
 
哦，是嗎？（是?。┡叮?gòu)物！
 
B: I really like shopping.
 
我特別喜歡購(gòu)物。
 
A: That's true but you're on a budget. You're trying to save money.
 
這是沒(méi)錯(cuò)，可是你不是在節(jié)省開(kāi)支嘛。你在存錢(qián)啊。
 
B: I know, but is was my brother's birthday. Well, it is my brother's birthday in a week so.
 
我知道，可是我哥哥的生日快到了。我哥哥一周后過(guò)生日。
 
A: Oh, no kidding.
 
哦，不是開(kāi)玩笑吧。
 
B: Yeah.
 
沒(méi)有。
 
A: So, what did you get your brother for his birthday?
 
那你為你哥哥買(mǎi)什么生日禮物了？
 
B: Well, it was quite difficult to find something that I thought he would like, but I got him some cakes in the end, some Japanese cakes.
 
我認(rèn)為很難找到他會(huì)喜歡的禮物，不過(guò)我最后給他買(mǎi)了蛋糕，一些日式蛋糕。
 
A: Japanese cakes?
 
日式蛋糕？
 
B: Yeah, they're in like a special presentation box.
 
對(duì)，蛋糕裝在特別的包裝盒里。
 
A: So, how are you going to get the cakes to your brother? Just through the post office?
 
那你怎么把蛋糕給你哥哥呢？去郵局寄給他嗎？
 
B: Yes, I sent them in the post this morning.
 
對(duì)啊，我今天早上寄給他了。
 
A: Oh, did you send them express or just regular mail?
 
哦，你寄的是快遞還是平郵？
 
B: No, regular mail because it was cheaper.

A: But, don't you want it to hurry and get there for his birthday?
 
可是你不想縮短時(shí)間，趕在他生日的時(shí)候寄到嗎？
 
B: I've got one week. I think it will get there in time.
 
我有一周的時(shí)間。我想蛋糕會(huì)及時(shí)寄到的。
 
A: So, what do you think your brother will think of the cakes?
 
那你覺(jué)得你哥哥會(huì)怎么看那些蛋糕？
 
B: I don't think he'll like them actually.
 
我想他不喜歡。
 
A: No?
 
為什么？
 
B: Well, he likes chocolate cake, and they look like they've got kind of chocolate inside but it's bean paste. I think he'll be disappointed.
 
因?yàn)樗矚g巧克力蛋糕，那些蛋糕看上去好像里面有巧克力，可是實(shí)際上那是豆沙。我想他會(huì)失望的。
 
A: So what did your brother get you for your last birthday?
 
那之前你過(guò)生日的時(shí)候你哥哥送你什么了？
 
B: That's a good question. He always gives me money, and he often gives me chocolate as well. He's very generous.
 
這是個(gè)好問(wèn)題。他一般都給我錢(qián)，還有巧克力。他非常大方。
 
A: Actually, I'm the same way. Guys like to give money. Money is so easy. No shopping involved.
 
實(shí)際上我也是這樣的。男生都喜歡送錢(qián)當(dāng)禮物。給錢(qián)很簡(jiǎn)單嘛，也不用去購(gòu)物。
 
B: It's practical, though, it's good.
 
雖然很實(shí)際，不過(guò)挺好的。
 
A: Now, I've been told that when you give money for a gift, it's actually very impolite.
 
可是有人跟我說(shuō)給錢(qián)當(dāng)禮物其實(shí)非常不禮貌。
 
B: Really?
 
真的嗎？
 
A: Is that true? Yeah!
 
真的嗎？是啊！
 
B: Why is that?
 
為什么呢？
 
A: I don't know. Some people say it's just really impersonal. That you should take the time to get a gift.
 
我也不知道。有些人說(shuō)那種做法很不禮貌。你應(yīng)該花時(shí)間去買(mǎi)個(gè)禮物。
 
B: Really! I really think if anybody gave me money I would be so pleased. It's a good present.
 
真的嗎？可是我認(rèn)為如果有人給我錢(qián)當(dāng)作禮物我會(huì)很高興的。那是個(gè)很好的禮物。
 
A: Exactly, that's what I think. (Pause) Hey, um, actually, when are you going to see your brother next?
 
沒(méi)錯(cuò)，我也是那么想的。（停頓了一下）嘿，你下次什么時(shí)候見(jiàn)你哥哥？
 
B: Probably, I will see him in August of September.
 
大概八九月的時(shí)候吧。
 
A: Oh, that's quite a way away.
 
哦，那還好長(zhǎng)時(shí)間呢。
 
B: Yes, about four months is that.
 
是啊，大概還有四個(gè)月。
 
A: So is this a younger brother or older brother?
 
你說(shuō)的是你弟弟還是哥哥？
 
B: He's older. He's twenty-six.
 
是哥哥，他今年26歲了。
 
A: Oh, he's twenty six.
 
哦，他26歲了。
 
B: He's going to be twenty-six soon.
 
他馬上就要26歲了。
 
A: Ok, well, if you happen to e-mail him, tell him happy birthday.
 
好的，如果你給他發(fā)電子郵件的話(huà)，替我跟他說(shuō)一聲祝他生日快樂(lè)。
 
B: Oh, certainly will do. Thanks.
