A: So if I was going to take a trip to Hawaii, what do you recommend? Which I island should I go to? What should I see?

B: First you have to have a goal in mind. Like what are you there for.
 
首先你腦海中要先確定個目標(biāo)。你要確定你去那里的目的是什么。
 
A: Maybe outdoor. Outdoor sports. Yeah, food.
 
我想應(yīng)該是室外運動。還有美食。
 
B: I would have to say, first if you want to go, go to Ohau because it's the most populated and has the most things to do (OK) like for a two-week vacation I would say, first you go to Waikiki, the town side where the most action is, and it's the most expensive, it's where all the hotels are, but stay there for a couple of days, and get out. Go to a more natural areas where the beaches are nicer, you know, more of the local culture, you see what real life is about.
 
我要說的是，首先你要去歐胡島，因為那里是人口最密集的島嶼，而且那里有很多事情可以做，比如說你有兩周的假期，你可以先去威基基海灘，那里是夏威夷最活躍的地方，而且也是花費最高的地方，那里酒店設(shè)備齊全，不過你在那里住幾天就好，其余時間可以去其他的地方?？梢匀ヒ粋€更自然、擁有更美海灘的地方，就是那種更能感受當(dāng)?shù)匚幕牡胤?，可以看到那里的真實生活?br />

B: Yeah, the real Hawaiian life.
 
沒錯，要體驗真正的夏威夷生活。
 
A: Isn't Waikiki where many Japanese...
 
是不是有很多日本人去威基基海灘？
 
B: Waikiki is where all the Japanese go. And it's a nice place because it real built up nice. There's a lot of things to do, clubs, bars, you know, hotels, restaurants, but there's also nice beaches. Right in Waikiki is called Diamond Head, where it's the most, it used to be a volcano, but now it's inactive, and you can do a nice hike up Diamond Head and see the island from the top.
 
日本人非常喜歡去威基基海灘。那是個不錯的地方，那里開發(fā)得很完善。有很多活動，還有俱樂部、酒吧、酒店、餐廳，當(dāng)然也有很棒的海灘。威基基海灘右邊是鉆石山，那里曾經(jīng)是火山，不過現(xiàn)在火山已經(jīng)休眠了，你可以去鉆石山遠(yuǎn)足，從山頂俯瞰整座島嶼。
 
A: There's actually active volcanoes in Hawaii, aren't there?

B: Yeah, it called Kilauea.

A: Kilauea, oh, there's only one?
 
基拉韋厄火山，只有一座活火山嗎？
 
B: Two, two volcanoes but Kilauea is the most active volcanoe in the world. It's always flowing, for example you get within fifty yards of lava flowing right in front of your eyes.
 
有兩座活火山，不過基拉韋厄火山是世界上最活躍的火山?；f厄火山總是噴涌巖漿，在距離50碼左右的地方，你就能看到火山巖噴涌而出。
 
A: And can you feel the heat?
 
那你能感受到熱度嗎？
 
B: Oh, definitely. That's why they give, they say you can't only go so close to the lava because it's really hot.

A: So it would be actually dangerous?

B: Yeah, and they say the gas emmisions from the volcano is also dangerous.

A: And I'm curious. Since Hawaii is such a tourist destination, what is the attitude of the local people towards tourists. Do you welcome them or sometimes, oh, I wish these people would get out of our country, you know, get off our island. Leave us alone.

B: Yeah, I think some of the local people do feel that way towards foreigners. They feel like they're taking over the island, for example, you know, or like for example, the white people are taking over our island they say, you know. There is that stereotype, but without tourism right now, Hawaii would not survive, cause it's our bread and butter money-maker you know.
 
我想一些當(dāng)?shù)厝藭ν鈬擞羞@種想法。他們認(rèn)為這些外國人占據(jù)了這座島嶼，舉例來說，他們會說：白人占據(jù)了我們的島。這是種刻板印象，不過如果不發(fā)展旅游業(yè)，那夏威夷就無法生存下去，因為旅游業(yè)是夏威夷的主要收入來源，是帶來利潤的主要產(chǎn)業(yè)。
 
A: I see.

B: But at the same time, culture is bringing our culture back I think because people are practicing more dances, cultural traditions because tourists want to see that, so at the same time I think there is a stereotype but also there's not.
 
同時，旅游業(yè)也使夏威夷的傳統(tǒng)文化得以復(fù)蘇，因為人們會跳傳統(tǒng)舞，進行很多傳統(tǒng)文化活動，因為游客想看到這些，所以我認(rèn)為雖然有刻板印象的存在，但也并不全是這種印象。
