該如何和老板解釋呢？

來(lái)聽今天的講解:

A: You wanted to see me?

是您找我嗎？

B: Yes, I did. Have a seat. I want to talk to you about the project.

是的，坐吧，我想跟你談?wù)勴?xiàng)目的情況。

A: I know I’m a little late in getting that report to you, but I’ve been pulling out the stops to get it done.

我知道我給報(bào)告的時(shí)間有些晚了，不過我正在傾盡全力在做這個(gè)報(bào)告。

B: But it’s still not done, is it? You know that the deadline for the next milestone of the project was this past Monday.

不過到現(xiàn)在還是沒有完，對(duì)嗎?你知道的，項(xiàng)目下一個(gè)里程碑式的階段應(yīng)該是過去的這個(gè)周一完成。

A: Yes, I know, but the scope of the project turned out to be a lot bigger than I had anticipated. And, they just didn’t allocate enough resources for something this size. Is there any way we can push back the deadline by a week?

是的，我承認(rèn)，不過項(xiàng)目的工作內(nèi)容要比我原來(lái)想象的多。而且象這樣大的項(xiàng)目所需要的資源都沒有分配足。我們是否有可能將最后期限再向后推一周？

B: The time to ask that was last week, not after you’ve missed the deadline. I have the management breathing down my neck about this report. I’ve tried to stall them for the past two days and they’re not happy.

這種要求應(yīng)該在上周提，而不是在你已經(jīng)超過最后期限時(shí)說。我上面的老板為這個(gè)報(bào)告追我很多次了。過去的兩次我都是在勸說他們，他們顯然不太高興。

A: I promise to have it on your desk by tomorrow morning. You have my word.

我保證明天一早就將報(bào)告送給你，我向你保證。

B: All right. I’ll give you until 9:00 a.m. tomorrow. I’m tired of taking the heat, though, and I don’t plan to do it any longer.

好，我最晚會(huì)等到明天上午九點(diǎn)。我已經(jīng)對(duì)為此受上面指責(zé)厭煩了，所以我不希望再這樣了。

A: You can count on me.

包在我身上吧。

B: Don’t let me down.

別讓我失望。

A: I won’t.

不會(huì)的。
