今天我們聊聊《傲慢與偏見》，

上學(xué)的時候，老師也“強迫”你去讀過嗎？

來聽今天的講解：

A: I can’t believe my English teacher is making me read pride and prejudice!

我的英語老師居然讓我去讀《傲慢與偏見》。

B: Why not! It’s a classic; in fact, it’s one of my favorite novels.

為什么不呢?它可是我最喜歡的經(jīng)典小說。

A: But it’s so old.

它太老了。

B: Don’t judge a book by its cover. Do you kwon what it’s about?

不要根據(jù)封面去判定書的內(nèi)容。你了解這本小說嗎？

A: No, not at all.

不了解。

B: First of all, it’s a romance novel, set in the early 19th century.

首先，它是19世紀初的浪漫愛情小說。

A: I didn’t realize it was a romance novel. What’s the main storyline?

我根本就不知道是一本愛情小說。故事的情節(jié)是什么呢？

B: It’s basically about a father who tried to marry off one of his five girls.

它是關(guān)于一個父親想嫁出去五個女兒其中的一個的故事。

A: Why does he want to do that?

他為什么要這么做？

B: Since he doesn’t have a son, he hopes that one of the girls will marry a wealthy man. That way, all of his daughters will be cared for.

因為他沒有兒子，所以她希望把一個女兒嫁給有錢人，這樣他所有的女兒都能被照顧到了。

A: Won’t they get his inheritance?

她們能否繼承老夫妻的房產(chǎn)嗎？

B: No, that’s the problem. Though they are well-off, once he dies, his house will go to his cousin. So, when he dies, the girls will have nothing.

這就是問題所在，雖然他們很有錢，但是，他死了以后所有的一切都要給他的堂兄弟，所以他去世后他的女兒得不到任何東西。

A: I see. This sounds interesting! Maybe my teacher isn’t so horrible after all.

聽起來故事情節(jié)還不錯，沒那么可怕。
