1. in vivo: 在活的有機(jī)體內(nèi)。這里的in vivo testing就是指“體內(nèi)測(cè)試”。

2. beat someone to the punch: 搶先下手，搶在前面。這里約翰的意思是“我是說(shuō)我們一定會(huì)打敗他們”。

例如：a marketing team that beat all the competitors to the punch.（某銷(xiāo)售組織先于其競(jìng)爭(zhēng)者做出了重大行動(dòng)）

上下班“打卡”就可以用punch the clock來(lái)表示。

3. buy out: 買(mǎi)斷…的股份；買(mǎi)下…的全部股權(quán)。也可以指付給補(bǔ)償金，付遣散費(fèi)（為使某人提前退役、離職等）。

例如：Our competitors must be worried by our new product because they offered to buy us out.（我們的對(duì)手一定在為我們的新產(chǎn)品而憂慮，因?yàn)樗麄兲岢鲆I(mǎi)下我們的全部產(chǎn)權(quán)。）

4. clinical trial: 臨床試驗(yàn)。

5. fiscal year: 財(cái)政年度。

6. pull the plug: 拔掉電源。

pull the plug on someone/something則用來(lái)指“阻止；制止；終止”，例如：Executives can also quickly pull the plug on a reality show if it falters, and then finance another.（如果一出“真人秀”收視率不穩(wěn)，經(jīng)理們可以激流勇退，轉(zhuǎn)而投資下一個(gè)節(jié)目。）

7. go toe-to-toe with: 合作。

例如：Japan and Deutschland are global drivers of industrial innovation and can go toe-to-toe with each other in this sphere.（日本和德國(guó)都是全球產(chǎn)業(yè)創(chuàng)新的先驅(qū)，雙方可以在這一領(lǐng)域進(jìn)行緊密的合作。）
