Taipei city instituted the first stage of water rationing today as reservoirs island-wide continue to dip to ever more critical levels. Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou this morning announced that water supplies will be cut back to swimming pools, car washes and other business that use large amounts of water including department stores. Ma said that the Fei-tsui reservoir which supplies the city with its water is critically low and appears headed for emergency level soon.
