十字架 01

I was thirteen at the time when my parents decided to take a holiday to Lakes Entrance. We were staying at a friend of my father’s holiday house and we were very excited. My brother was to sleep in the bedroom with my parents and my two sisters and I had the other bedroom, as there were only two beds in the room, I was to sleep on a camp bed between the two.

The house looked very old and we thought it strange that there were pictures of Jesus, Mary and many crosses on the walls.

Nothing strange happened for the first couple of days except that my father started to become ill. At first it started as a cough but as each day passed my father seemed to have more difficulty breathing. I feel it is important to state that my father had never suffered from any problems of this sort in the past.

Eventually it was decided that my father was too sick to continue the holiday and it was agreed that we would leave the next morning.

我父母決定去湖區(qū)度假的時(shí)候，我13歲。我們住在父親朋友的度假小屋里，都非常興奮。我哥哥和我的父母住一個(gè)房間，而我和兩個(gè)姐妹住另一個(gè)房間。因?yàn)槟欠块g只有兩張床，所以我就在她們倆中間架了個(gè)行軍床。

那屋子很舊，墻上還掛著耶穌，圣母瑪利亞的畫(huà)像和許多的十字架，我們都覺(jué)得很奇怪。

開(kāi)頭幾天沒(méi)什么怪事發(fā)生，只是我父親生病了。剛開(kāi)始只是咳嗽，但隨著日子一天天過(guò)去，他的呼吸越來(lái)越困難。需要說(shuō)明的是，我父親以前從沒(méi)有類似的毛病。

最后，全家一致認(rèn)為父親的病實(shí)在是太嚴(yán)重了，我們決定不再度假，第二天早晨就離開(kāi)那兒回家。
